Daytime and Primetime May 14 Mother's Day Daytime is listed as random programming, but it looks as if it's about 21 straight hours of movies about mothers, which is the primetime theme. I'm not listing Mildred Pierce, which also appears during the primetime theme of May 5, But Have You Read the Book? It becomes the third non-Noir Alley film to air twice this month (after Manhattan Melodrama and Wichita). One slot is unscheduled. Listen, Darling (Freddie Bartholomew, Judy Garland) (MGM, 1938) My Reputation (Barbara Stanwyck, George Brent) (Warner Bros., 1946) I Remember Mama (Irene Dunne, Philip Dorn) (RKO, 1948) Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (Ellen Burstyn, Kris Kristofferson) (Warner Bros., 1974) The Trip to Bountiful (Geraldine Page, John Heard) (Island, 1985) Postcards from the Edge (Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine) (Columbia, 1990)

Primetime May 15 Night Three of the James Wong Howe. Looks like we're moving into a period where he worked at least some of the time for Columbia, but TCM still got the rights to a couple of those films. Objective, Burma! (Errol Flynn, James Brown - not the Godfather of Soul) (Warner Bros., 1945) He Ran All the Way (John Garfield, Shelly Winters) (United Artists, 1951) Picnic (William Holden, Kim Novak) (Columbia, 1955) Sweet Smell of Success (Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis) (United Artists, 1957) Bell, Book and Candle (James Stewart, Kim Novak) (Columbia, 1958) The Outrage (Paul Newman, Laurence Harvey) (MGM, 1964)

They should have also included ANY NUMBER CAN PLAY.

They should have also included ANY NUMBER CAN PLAY. Agreed on "Any Number Can Play," as it's an excellent movie that flies under the radar.
Also, for those who have been following our conversation in another thread about director Robert Wise, "The Set-Up" is an outstanding Wise-directed noir.

Primetime May 16 Libations. Reminds me of the Jeoopardy! category "Potent Potables". Looks like it's more that each title has the name of some kind of drink in it moreso than all the plots are about alcohol. What - No Beer? (Buster Keaton, Jimmy Durante) (MGM, 1933) Sam Whiskey (Burt Reynolds, Angie Dickinson) (United Artists, 1969) Spring and Port Wine (James Mason, Diana Coupland) (Dist. in the US by Allied Artists, 1970) The Moonshine War (Patrick McGoohan, Richard Widmark) (MGM, 1970) Tequila Sunrise (Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer) (Warner Bros., 1988)

Of the two, "The Ex..." is better, but both are worth the watch.

THE EX-MRS. BRADFORD has the added bonus of James Gleason as a police inspector...in a role similar to that of Oscar Piper, the character he played in RKO's Hildegarde Withers mysteries.

The Dunne-Bickford picture clocks in at just under an hour, but packs a wallop.

Primetime May 18 Night Three of the Month-Long Theme on the Weather. I'm only slowly figuring out the focuses of each individual night. Looks like Night One was tornadoes or hurricanes, Night Two was rain, and tonight is snow and ice. The Gold Rush (Charles Chaplin, Georgia Hale) (United Artists, 1925) Christmas in Connecticut (Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan) (Warner Bros., 1945) Dr. Zhivago (Omar Sharif, Julie Christie) (MGM, 1965) Ice Station Zebra (Ernest Borgnine, Patrick MacGoohan) (MGM, 1968) McCabe & Mrs. Miller (Warren Beatty, Julie Christie) (Warner Bros., 1971)

I don't know if this is the place to say this, but TCM has "Rome Adventure," coming on at 5:45. 4/26 (Now.)
I think it's one of the best of Troy Donahue's movies. He and Suzanne Pleshette fall in love in this movie and also in real life while making it. They married a short time later. The marriage only lasted 6 months.
I think Suzanne Pleshette is a really good actress and a fine person. I don't think she ever said anything publically about why the marriage ended, but we can guess. What's nice to see is the scene where the two are sitting in a club during a romantic song and she truly looks like a woman in love.
Also staring is Angie Dickinson in a smoking hot role as the "other woman."
