The AV Club has been getting into Warner Bros.' 100th anniversary with a series of articles this month. Here's a sort of generic overview of the studio's history. A few odd moments. They failed to identify Ginger Rogers in her famous, half-dressed only in big gold coins outfit, in the set of photos that top the article, referring to her only as a "chorus girl". To their credit, multiple readers of that website, whom I've always assumed are much younger than myself and most of the members on here, take the AV Club to task for this oversight by being exceptionally snarky, because young people can only be snarky on the Internet. But they made their point. I personally found curious that while First National is mentioned as one of a tiny handful of major Hollywood stuydios prior to WB's creation (Paramount and MGM are the others), I didn't see any discussion of how WB ended up taking over or absorbing that studio, something I would like to read, actually, since I have only a vague understanding myself. Discussion of the gangster era at least name drops of all the principal players, but Bogart gets a big photo at the top and seems to be the only one the AV Club really cares about, which might upset some people on here. As a comic book geek, I enjoyed the brief history of Warners' acquisition of and incorporation of the DC franchise. This could have gotten more focus, in my opinion, but the article wasn't written for me. There's a quick info drop at the end of most of the significant WB titles of the last 50 years that's a bit head-spinning. www.avclub.com/the-legacy-of-warner-bros-studios-1850310217

Sounds interesting. I also would like to learn more about First National. Films produced by Warner Brothers in the early 1950s still have First National included, usually under the phrase 'a Warner Brothers-First National picture.' So did it become a specific division, or unit, under the main WB office, with its own slate of films each year?
