As if guitar rock kudos and chief composition of TOMMY hadn't been enough, Pete Townshend gained yet another music milestone with his work here:

As a Who fan since later '64 I can't imagine anyone who would have thought Pete wasn't for real. Never saw them in their "prime"(not that they ever weren't) but at the end of your clip was access to a clip of them from a show I was at. And doing the same song. Sepiatone

Sepiatone As far as I'm concerned, Sepiatone, anything related to the WHO prior to Keith Moon's passing is "prime"... You have bragging rights here, Sepiatone: That Pontiac Silverdome show was culled for footage for The Kids Are Alright (1979)!!

I'm a fan of his solo work too, though I know not every Who fan was enamored of his attachment to Meher Baba, the Indian spiritual leader who died in 1969, especially after so many rock stars had picked up and then dropped the Maharishi. Pete spearheaded and performed (with Ronnie Lane) on a couple of limited-run fundraising LP's for a London spiritual center, highlighting Meher Baba's teaching. I found them at The Harvard Coop, a great source for imports and specialty recordings in those days. (1970) (1972) The first solo album, Who Came First (1972), showed a strong spiritual influence, along the lines of George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. Here's Pete, standing on eggshells. By the time of his second solo album, Empty Glass (1980), things had obviously gotten dicier for him. The album Rough Mix (1977) started when Ronnie Lane asked Pete to produce him but the project turned into a collaboration, with both performing.
