Poor Audrey and Gregory never stood chance with this draw.

I thought ROMAN HOLIDAY was a cute movie. But just another in a long line of Audrey Hepburn fluff pieces.

Ha! You're right about that! I voted for Casablanca because.....Casablanca!
But I will also say that I like Roman Holiday very much. Though it has the cute romantic angle, the film ultimately is about denial of self to uphold one's responsibility to others, and I don't regard that as fluff. Maybe it would have worked for these two to be together, and perhaps it would not, but every time I see this film, I hold my breath and hope against hope that they will be given the chance to find out.

I never saw Hepburn's character as someone in "denial of self" as much as someone weary of what she sees as a limitation of life and all life has to offer. And many scenes in the movie of her adventures with Peck (like the hand in the hole in the wall scene, as well as that blowing the paper off the straw proffered in this thread) to feature the cute and impish nature people came to expect of an Audrey Hepburn movie role.

Who is the other person??? LOL I am going to vote for "Casablanca," but have withheld my vote so far as a show of support for "Roman Holiday" (because my insignificant vote means that much ).

It might have been more interesting if CASABLANCA went up against SABRINA, because then it would have come down to Bogey with Ingrid versus Bogey with Audrey.

But, considering my avatar, it would take a miracle for me to vote for anything other than Casablanca. And the Germans have outlawed miracles.

Who is the other person??? LOL Me. 😇 I like Casablanca well enough, but I don't repeat views of it as much as Roman Holiday.

I saw ROMAN HOLIDAY in a theater a few months ago and enjoyed it much more than I ever have on TV. Eddie Albert stole the show! I also enjoy seeing Gregory Peck in a somewhat comedic role. Audrey is Audrey- I appreciate her in everything. She's just lovely to watch and she worked so well with men much older than herself.
CASABLANCA is so iconic in so many ways, but beyond that it really is an exceptional film. There are so many wonderful character actors besides the 3 leads, and I feel the film has no slow spots.

What a tactful turn of phrase - sure gave me a great chuckle.
