variety.com/2023/film/news/robert-downey-jr-vertigo-remake-paramount-1235563018/ "If you’re going to remake a movie, why not remake one of the most acclaimed movies ever made? Paramount Pictures has preemptively acquired a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 classic psychological thriller “Vertigo,” as a possible starring vehicle for Robert Downey Jr. The actor is producing the project with his wife Susan Downey through their Team Downey production company, along with John Davis and John Fox via Davis Entertainment."

While other movies and tv shows have taken inspiration from Vertigo, it seems unnecessary to remake it. Maybe go back to the book on which it is based, D'Entre Les Morts. Vertigo is one of Hitchcock 's most stylized efforts and is now considered, by people who like to make those kinds of lists, one of the best movies ever made. That's a big hill to climb.

Being a great movie hasn't stopped remakes. HIGH SOCIETY didn't even bother to change many of the lines from PHILADELPHIA STORY. Harrison Ford's SABRINA, would have benefitted with a different title and stand on its own. I agree why remake? Give it a new spin, call it something else. It seems that either there is a shortage of good screenwriters or no desire to hire one.

It seems that either there is a shortage of good screenwriters or no desire to hire one. Sure, but High Society turned The Philadelphia Story into a musical with Sinatra & Crosby. That's more than a just a remake, there's a reason to make that movie, the music makes it stand out from the Kate Hepburn version. The Sabrina remake fell short for me. Hard to compete against Audrey Hepburn. I like Harrison Ford but he's no Bogart. Now, His Girl Friday is a great example of improving on the original. I like it more than The Front Page. Then you have Switching Channels (1988) with Burt Reynolds. P.U. I like Robert Downey, Jr. If they do indeed remake Vertigo, I hope they make it their own, put a new spin on it. Go back to the source material for something that wasn't in the Hitchcock version. I don't have high hopes, though.
