Early role for John Payne, as dashing as they come. LOL Yes, he's handsome, but right now he just wants to stay out of the line of fire.

She is going to pick Arnold over Sam, isn't she?

Tubby: "Will you lay off those European liberties with my wife."
Wife: "Come along" [you idiot]
Funniest exchange so far.

Maybe that is part of the problem.
She even wanted an exciting man for her daughter.

He stuck the knife in with the grandparent comment, but he deserved to get in a shot or two.

The screenplay is awfully slanted...manipulating us to hate the woman and feel sorry for the man. And even when he makes a cruel comment (the grandparent comment) we're supposed to side with him, not her. Some of this is a bit misogynistic.
Why can't she be a grandmother and still a young-ish and vital woman.

You absolutely have so suspend some disbelief.
He has built his own company, admits to being ruthless but we have to buy the innocent hayseed act....
Like letting her go off AGAIN. Three strikes and you are out - ?

If this were not an independent Sam Goldwyn production and had been made at Warner Brothers...Fran would have been played by Bette Davis and Sam would have been played by Claude Rains.

Kurt HAS to be in this for some money. Or is an older woman truly a possibility by European standards?
