Wow, shocked to see Lady Eve currently has double the votes of Psycho. I am in the minority in that I don't see The Lady Eve as a comedic masterpiece. There are screwball comedies I adore (Twentieth Century, My Man Godfrey, Ball of Fire, His Girl Friday etc.) but the genre is a bit hit or miss for me and it's hard to explain why exactly. I can't deny Stanwyck and Fonda are great in the film, but it just doesn't click for me.

That scene alone makes The Lady Eve one of my top 10 comedies.

I have to go with the star power here. Stanwyck and Fonda rank much higher in my book than do Leigh and Perkins. Plus, I really love Eugene Pallette. He was from Winfield, KS, where my aunt lived. It's a nice little town. So, it's The Lady Eve for me.

THE LADY EVE is smart and funny-I love how Preston Sturges seems to be able to compact his films into a relatively short time frame. PSYCHO, on the other hand, seems long and methodical at times, but I'm more interested in it, and the shocking scenes don't wear off for me.

Well, I never was as "thrilled" by The Lady Eve as some other people seem to be. I thought it not so funny or anywhere near "smart". A disappointment to me considering the cast. And besides...
With Psycho You get what you expect from Hitch. He delivered the goods.
