Lewis Stone had roles in both productions. The silent version starred Ramon Novarro, and the Technicolor remake had Stewart Granger in the lead role.

I'm a fan of the 1952 version, mainly because Eleanor Parker never looked better due to the wonderful cinematography by Charles Rosher.

I'm a fan of the 1952 version, mainly because Eleanor Parker never looked better due to the wonderful cinematography by Charles Rosher. I agree, she looks fantastic in the remake. A far cry from how she looked in CAGED.
I like to think of Eleanor Parker as a chameleon. I know THE SOUND OF THE MUSIC crowd will pelt me with tomatoes, but I actually prefer her performance over Julie Andrews' performance. She gives us a much more complex characterization as the Baroness.
