I just saw Eddie Muller’s outro for the 2/26/23 edition of Noir Alley. He said Noir Alley would be off until May because of: 1) 31 Days of Oscar in March; and 2) a Warner Bros. tribute in April.
For me, this is a big disappointment. One of the reasons I don’t like Oscar month is that Noir Alley, my favorite TCM feature, is preempted. To add another “special” month of preemptions right after that is way too much.
Just my 2 cents...

Yeah, I kinda zone out of the "31 days" thing. I don't get a thrill from seeing some movie that doesn't sound interesting or I've seen but never liked because it won an Oscar for something most people never notice or cared about. Like sound editing or hair fashion.

I would have given this "ten likes" if I could have. I'm really bumming as NA is my favorite TCM "franchise."

It's hard to imagine that 31 days of Oscars is a bigger draw than Noir Alley. For those who want their noir fix with Eddie, you may want to consider "Ask Eddie" which is on the Noir Alley YouTube page. Eddie answers fan questions, typically every Thurday.
Eddie, we will see you in May!

I think 31 Days of Oscar is TCM's way of branding itself as a "prestige" platform. It's important to be able to say they do it because it gives them credibility for doing "important" work in the industry, like they're educating the masses about "hair fashion", as sepia said. Then they can report back to the new boss, the one with an axe in its hand. I agree that it's not nearly an important enough mission to suspend something like Noir Alley for the duration. Eddie educates us more that any facile show-and-tell programming stunt. I'll admit this comes from a jaded viewer who's already seen most of what I want to see that they're going to offer and they're looking for "new" viewers, but I'd love to see the numbers. Does this really bring in new viewers every year or is it time to reevaluate?

Does this really bring in new viewers every year or is it time to reevaluate? We are an award-oriented culture: E.g., who can name who came in second-place in the Super Bowl, NBA finals, Grammy's etc? There is still a very strong tie between Hollywood, the Oscars and US films in general, and of course that tie is very strong from a historical perspective. Like you I have seen most of the films featured in 31 Days, but I do find myself recommending the month to "newbies".
