I'm fairly confident that this is not the slant on this category that you are looking for, but the first movie that occurred to me was The Mystery of Edwin Drood (1935) because no one knows how Charles Dickens expected to complete the novel that that movie was based upon.

Yeah, I was thinking of when characters in the story take a secret with them to the grave...like the mother in MADAME X never tells her son that she's his mother.
But I like how you are thinking outside the box with a more creative answer...because of course, Dickens took whatever ending he was planning for Edwin Drood to the grave with him.
