Carter Center: Former President Jimmy Carter in hospice care The Carter Center said Saturday that former President Jimmy Carter has entered home hospice care. The charity created by the 98-year-old former president said on Twitter that after a series of short hospital stays, Carter “decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention.” It said he has the full support of his medical team and family, which “asks for privacy at this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers.” Carter, a Democrat, became the 39th U.S. president when he defeated former President Gerald R. Ford in 1976. He served a single term and was defeated by Republican Ronald Reagan in 1980. In August 2015, Carter had a small cancerous mass removed from his liver. The following year, Carter announced that he needed no further treatment, as an experimental drug had eliminated any sign of cancer. Carter celebrated his most recent birthday in October with family and friends in Plains, the tiny Georgia town where he and his wife, Rosalynn, were born in the years between World War I and the Great Depression. The Carter Center, which the 39th president and the former first lady established after their one White House term, last year marked 40 years of promoting democracy and conflict resolution, monitoring elections, and advancing public health in the developing world. James Earl Carter Jr. won the 1976 presidential election after beginning the campaign as a little-known, one-term Georgia governor. His surprise performance in the Iowa caucuses established the small, Midwestern state as an epicenter of presidential politics. Carter went on to defeat Ford in the general election, largely on the strength of sweeping the South before his native region shifted heavily to Republicans. apnews.com/article/politics-united-states-government-gerald-ford-ronald-reagan-hospice-care-f4e26c10a7b366f14e62f690da403b0a

Tom Sizemore, ‘Saving Private Ryan’ actor, in critical condition after brain aneurysm, rep says Tom Sizemore, the “Saving Private Ryan” actor, is hospitalized in intensive care after suffering a brain aneurysm, his spokesperson told CNN on Sunday morning. Sizemore is in critical condition and is in a “wait and see situation,” said the spokesperson, Charles Lago. “His family is aware and waiting for updates.” Lago said. “There is no further update at this time.” Sizemore, a 61-year-old from Detroit, appeared in a number of hit crime and war movies in the 90s and 2000s, including in the films “Heat,” “Natural Born Killers,” “Pearl Harbor” and “Black Hawk Down.” Often portraying tough guys, he is perhaps best known for playing Sgt. Mike Horvath in the World War II movie “Saving Private Ryan.” As the loyal sergeant alongside star Tom Hanks, Sizemore delivers the titular line toward the end of the movie: “Some day we might look back on this and decide that saving Private Ryan was the one decent thing we were able to pull out of this godawful s***ty mess.” In addition, he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2000 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role in “Witness Protection.” More recently, he appeared in episodes of the TV series “Twin Peaks” and “Cobra Kai.” Sizemore has long struggled with drug addiction and had a litany of legal issues during his career. He was convicted in 2003 on domestic violence charges stemming from a relationship with his former fiancee Heidi Fleiss. He told CNN’s Larry King in a 2010 interview he had been addicted to cocaine, heroin and meth, and he participated in the 2010 season of the reality show “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” www.cnn.com/2023/02/19/us/tom-sizemore-actor-aneurysm/index.html

Tom Sizemore Remains in Coma With "No Further Hope" After Suffering Brain Aneurysm From Stroke, Rep Says — The Hollywood Reporter Tom Sizemore’s family will make an end-of-life decision for the actor who suffered a brain aneurysm from a stroke on Feb. 19, his rep says. The Saving Private Ryan actor has been in critical condition and in a coma at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank since he was found at home unconscious. In a statement Monday, Sizemore’s rep, Charles Lago, said that there was no longer a chance for his recovery. “Today, doctors informed his family that there is no further hope and have recommended end-of-life decision,” Lago said in the statement to The Hollywood Reporter, adding that the “family is now deciding end-of-life matters.” “We are asking for privacy for his family during this difficult time, and they wish to thank everyone for the hundreds of messages of support and prayers that have been received,” Lago added. “This has been a difficult time for them.” Sizemore was found at his Los Angeles home in the early morning unconscious after he had collapsed following the medical emergency. Paramedics transported the actor to the L.A.-area hospital, where he had been under observation in the intensive care unit. Sizemore is best known for his portrayal of Sgt. Mike Horvath in the Oscar-winning World War II film directed by Steven Spielberg. The film, which starred Tom Hanks, garnered four Academy Awards, including best director, with an additional six nominations, including best picture, during the 1999 ceremony. The 61-year-old performer, who became notable for his roles in ’90s actioners, has also appeared in the Oliver Stone-directed, Quentin Tarantino-written Natural Born Killers, which also starred Woody Harrelson, Juliette Lewis, Robert Downey Jr. and Tommy Lee Jones; a year later in Michael Mann’s heist film Heat; the Ben Affleck-led war drama Pearl Harbor and Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down, which were both released in 2001. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/tom-sizemore-remains-in-coma-end-of-life-decision-1235335745/

'Still got some time in him': Former President Jimmy Carter doing well in hospice care, niece says Former President Jimmy Carter might have more time left despite deciding to receive end-of life care instead of additional medical intervention, according to the 98-year-old's niece. Leanne Smith told FOX News Digital that the former president had a "good day" Sunday, adding that she feels like "he's still got some time in him." Carter entered hospice care, opting to forgo any additional medical treatment, according to a Feb. 18 statement Saturday from the Carter Center, the charity created by Carter and his wife Rosalynn in 1982. "After a series of short hospital stays, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention. He has the full support of his family and his medical team," the statement read. At 98, he's lived longer than any other former commander-in-chief. And his 42 years after leaving the White House means he has spent more time as an ex-president than anyone else. In 2015, Carter shared that he had been diagnosed with cancer – metastatic melanoma – found during a surgery on his liver, which had spread to his brain. Several months later, Carter announced he was no longer receiving treatment and that his scans didn't show signs of cancer. Shortly after the news of Carter's move to hospice care, Kim Fuller, another niece of Carter's, spoke about her uncle's legacy during a sermon at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, where the former President previously taught, according to FOX News Digital. "He had a good day," Smith told FOX News Digital. "In fact, about 30 minutes ago, I got a text. They knew I made broccoli and cheese soup, so before I came to meet with you, I dropped broccoli and cheese soup off to be delivered to the house, because he's eating and talking … so it is amazing. He's still got some time in him. I just feel like it." www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2023/02/27/former-president-jimmy-carter-hospice-care/11359174002/

Glenn Close No Longer Presenting at the 2023 Oscars After Testing Positive for COVID Glenn Close has tested positive for COVID and will no longer be presenting at the 2023 Academy Awards, PEOPLE can confirm. The actress, 75, was scheduled to present with Harrison Ford at Sunday night's Oscars ceremony, during what would've been an Air Force One reunion with the actor, 80. "Yes, she has COVID, and she is of course required to bow out," a representative for Close tells PEOPLE in a statement. "She was very much looking forward to taking part." The Associated Press was first to report the news of Close's COVID diagnosis. Close, an eight-time Academy Award nominee, and Ford, who has been nominated once, starred opposite one another in the 1997 thriller about the hijacking of the president's (Ford) titular aircraft. Air Force One received two Oscar nominations at the 1998 ceremony, in the Best Sound and Best Film Editing categories. Movies' biggest night will be held at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide. Jimmy Kimmel is hosting this year, his third time in the emceeing gig, and the movie with the most overall nominations is Everything Everywhere All at Once, which has 11 total nods. (It's followed by All Quiet on the Western Front and The Banshees of Inisherin, which both earned nine nominations.) Lenny Kravitz will perform during the In Memoriam segment, and four of the five Best Original Song nominees will be showcased live during the broadcast. A group of A-list stars are expected to present awards, including Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas, Ariana DeBose, Jessica Chastain, Samuel L. Jackson, Janelle Monáe and John Cho, to name a few. The 2023 Oscars will air live on ABC Sunday, March 12, at 8 p.m. ET. people.com/movies/glenn-close-tests-positive-for-covid-no-longer-presenting-at-oscars/

Its not really an iconic or sentimental pairing like Warren Beatty & Fay Dunaway. And we know how that well that went.

I know this is not a political site but I'm very curious why Tucker Carlson was fired or quit. From what I've read, Rupert Murdoch himself wanted Carlson out after that large Dominion lawsuit settlement. I'm not a Fox News viewer but he was the most popular host so it must be a good story.

Lots of strangeness. Carlson hated Trump per emails, but went all in on the election fraud theory. Maybe most popular, but indirectly cost the most because of the Dominion settlement. More will be revealed later, expect publicity mileage for his firing.
