I'm guessing a man because of the western and war movie picks. But then the Truffaut movie is thrown in there to sound like he's well rounded.

I must say I very much enjoyed the guest programmer discussion with Steven Spielberg for the 3 films he selected.
The John Ford western The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence has a connection with Steven Spielberg’s latest film The Fabelmans, which I am fortunate enough to have seen. There were some spoilers for the new film if you have not seen it yet.
The Lewis Milestone film A Walk in the Sun also has a tie-in with Spielberg’s film Saving Private Ryan. From the discussion I learned that Milestone has a war trilogy which also includes the 1930 classic All Quiet on the Western Front and the 1959 film Pork Chop Hill.
The final selection of the evening, Day for Night, naturally led to a discussion of how the film shows aspects of the movie-making process and also gave Ben a chance to ask Spielberg about casting François Truffaut in his film Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Overall a very interesting evening. Unfortunately Ben was losing his voice but he managed to power through. In my view this is the type of programming I look forward to on TCM as it distinguishes them from other movie networks.
A Walk in the Sun and Day for Night are available on WatchTCM until March 7.
