The mother of the young girl is played by Rosamund John, who was Leslie Howard's favorite British actress. Very pretty in a very British way.

Why does this suddenly feel like a Twilight Zone episode?

The woman reading the book during the operation is played by Pamela Kellino (Mason's real-life wife). She starts out as a background character that Mason doesn't pay much attention to initially. Big mistake. LOL

Interestingly, we never see John's husband in the movie.

I was really enjoying John's character - shame we lost her so early on.

I was really enjoying John's character - shame we lost her so early on. She has a bit more screen time later. This isn't the last we see her...
