I'm watching Grand Prix and decided I must like it better than LeMans, though I liked Lemans when I watched it. I came to this weird conclusion because I find I watch Grand Prix whenever it is on tv, but not LeMans. Anyone else have a preference? A side note. Last time I watched HOW THE WEST WAS WON it was presented with the sides taller than the center and the top and bottom edges of the film were curved to imitate Cinerama. Maybe it was an illusion, but I thought it looked more 3D. GrandPrix I'm watching now is letterboxed and doesn't have the 3D feel. Anyone else notice?

I, too, will watch Grand Prix (I have it on mute in the background right now), but LeMans doesn't work for me. Part of why I like Grand Prix is that I enjoy Garner as an actor and I simply enjoy looking at Francoise Hardy, as a movie, IMO, it's only okay otherwise.
Have you seen 2019's "Ford v Ferrari," which has become my favorite auto racing film? (My comments on it here: "Ford v Ferrari")

I was going to watch FORD VS. FERARRI, it was on FXM the no commercial cable site. Usually the movies rotate on a regular basis, but I haven't seen it scheduled again. You're right about the actors in GRAND PRIX. They all gave great performances in a film meant to emphasis the races. Re: LEMANS, I remember when I saw it, I didn't think McQueen's performance wasn't his best.

Found FORD VS FERRARI on a commercial station and recorded it. I lose interest in movies run in 10 minute segments followed by 4 minutes of ads. Even with FF past commercials, the rhythm of the movie suffered. Can't wait until I watch it commercial free!

Both are great films. As mentioned above, I could watch Grand Prix (1966) solely for Françoise Hardy, whose shy, wistful beauty loves the camera. Most people I have had conversations with regarding Le Mans (1971) do not like it for reasons people, such as myself, love it: it's not a Hollywood fluff piece. Most of the action occurs on the track, where the real story takes place, and the cars are the stars. No backstories or characterizations, sparse dialogue (dialogue does not appear until 37 minutes into the film), and a virtually silent McQueen appears at his stoic and magnetic best. Additionally, its innovative camera work, use of authentic sounds from each car, and cinema-verite style augment the film's immediacy and realism. Le Mans is not for everyone, and understandably so, but I do not believe one has to be a petrolhead to love it, as some of its critics have claimed.
