I guess I don't have a clear idea of what constitutes a reboot. In my mind, Archie Bunker's Place is a reboot but Maude and The Jeffersons are spinoffs. Joanie Loves Chachi is a reboot but Mork and Mindy and Laverne and Shirley are spinoffs. Is this correct? By the way, I've never seen an episode of Mayberry RFD. It was a little before my time. I believe I've seen every episode of The Andy Griffith Show thanks to 50+ years of reruns. If Mayberry RFD reruns have ever aired, they flew beneath my radar. I would consider Archie Bunker's Place and Joanie Loves Chachi as spin-offs, too. I think of reboots on television the way films are remakes - the storyline is the same, the basic premise, but with new actors in the old roles, and/or some story tweaks to adjust for the time. Some of these are what are called legacy reboots, in that they are considered somewhat of a continuation of the original series, like the new Quantum Leap, that takes place in the same "universe" as the original show, and the original show's characters are mentioned, or part of the cast in some way. For instance, Ernie Hudson in the new series plays a character that was featured in an episode of the old series. And the daughter of Dean Stockwell's character from the original is part of the new show's storyline. And then you have shows like the flagship Law & Order, or The X-Files, which were canceled, but then brought back years later, and the newer seasons are considered part of the original run. In X-Files' case, the original series ran for 9 seasons from 1993 to 2001 before being canceled. Then it was brought back 2016 and again in 2018, with these later seasons considered seasons 10 and 11, rather than season one or two of a new series, despite the 15 year gap. Same for the recent revival of the original Law & Order.

Well it's tech/Sci-Fi and I like it, so that's surely the kiss of death. Figured I'd be hearing cancel music, but read that 6 more episodes of the Quantum Leap reboot have been ordered for the first season. Shocked but happy.

Well, the season's over for the Quantum Leap reboot. It's been renewed and I'm looking forward to next season. Have the orig on DVD, so maybe I can get inspired to watch that like TB is watching M*A*S*H. But I'd want to rip it to hard disk first and am currently rebuilding my raised bed garden, so limited time.

It's been years since I've seen the episodes of the original Quantum Leap. Up until about a year ago a channel called Comet was showing the reruns of it. You might not have had access to it probably. Sepiatone

Sepiatone Yeah, never heard of Comet. I do remember watching some episodes when the show was originally broadcast on NBC back in the day. But it's been years since that time, and I don't think I have ever caught any episodes in reruns. I did think Scott Bakula was quite good, a versatile actor who has turned up on many shows.

Yes, Dean Stockwell was always great to watch. To me, one his most memorable roles was a brief, but intense one as Howard Hughes in Tucker: A Man and His Dream (1988), a favorite flick of mine. Always thought Hollywood gave Hughes the short stick - focusing more on his personal life and mental state in his latter years rather than his inventive contributions to aviation and cinema.

I've seen a couple that brought those contributions to light, but not with a whole lot of focus. Like mentioning them in passing.
The movie THE AVIATOR('04) gives them a fair amount of attention, but then does give Hughes' deteriorating mental state the lion's share of screen time.

Yeah, I had high hopes for that film, but was really disappointed with how much time was spent on the last couple of years of his life. The It leads if it bleeds, train wreck appeal for the masses assumption apparently.

A teaser for the new Frasier reboot. It's set to premiere in October.

I think they filmed about ten episodes in the spring, before the strike. So my guess is that it will premiere in October and wrap up by December. Then if the strike is over, more episodes will be produced and the season will resume after the first of the year. If the strike drags on into 2024, then it will be a short, abbreviated season. But at least viewers will get to see some of it.

I don't consider Quantum Leap a reboot. I haven't watched it but they're looking for Sam. I have the original on Blu-ray. I know the wndding was rushed but my impression Sam found out he was in control of his leaps, but decided to keep on with them.
