Most fall flat on their face, IMO, but there's 2 current ones that I really like.
Quantum Leap The original was one of my favorite series. I really like how the new one is honoring it as well as giving it a slightly new spin.
Fantasy Island The original was fun to watch mostly because of the guest stars & Ricardo. The new version also honors the old while actually having better scripts too. Last I saw, it'll be back on Fox next month for season 2. In the meantime, I've been watching the orig again on early, early GetTV weekends. Stories? Oh my are they corny. And I think they've chopped 1/3 of each show for more ads. Hasn't stopped me from putting them on the dvr.

What are you thoughts about the reboots for Hawaii Five 0 and Magnum P.I.?

Watched the origs, but not the reboots. Not sure why not though. Hubby watched the Hawaii reboot.
Fond memory of the orig Hawaii Five-0 episode with the monopoly cards & money.
Guess my favorite thing about the orig Magnum series was the interplay between Tom Selleck and John Hillerman. Did the reboot have anything like that?

The Magnum reboot just finished its fourth season and was cancelled by CBS but has been picked up by NBC for 20 more episodes. The last episode on CBS in May had Magnum and Higgins admit their feelings for each other...Higgins is now a female, which seems a bit strange!

We remembered the show as being the "second feature" to The Love Boat on Saturday nights, and both shows were not particularly subtle in their storytelling or use of familiar guest stars. But Ricardo/Roarke was Da Man.
(Interesting that both the reboot series, and that heretical Blumhouse horror-movie thing, paid homage to the later show trying to bring in "Julie" as Roarke's cute female assistant, after Herve Villechaize was reportedly acting more erratic on set and in danger of being fired by season 4-5.)
As for reboots, only recently discovered, on TubiTV, another recent summer-replacement attempt at rebooting You Bet Your Life, this time with Jay Leno in the improvisatory-Groucho role (and bringing plenty of his old Tonight Show shticks, like wacky newspaper headlines), that...I didn't even realize existed. I hadn't seen Bill Cosby's attempt at a reboot in the 90's, so can't comment.

Nope, that seals any interest from me on sampling it. Could have lived with the gender swap, but not this.

I was a fan of both of these shows when they were originally on TV. However, I have not seen a single episode of the reboots. They just didn't look that interesting to me.

Columbo has become very popular with younger audiences, and along with that has been talk of a hypothetical reboot.
The consensus seems to be that Mark Ruffalo would to justice to the part of Columbo, but many seem to feel that a reboot would pale in comparison to the detective's iconic portrayal by Peter Falk, not to mention the '70s aesthetic that seems such a part of the charm of the original series.

I watched the rebooted Hawaii 5-0 for the first few seasons, but quit a couple before it was finally canceled. I wasn't much of a fan of the original, and didn't think much of the reboot, either.
I tried out the new Quantum Leap, but quit after episode 4. I never warmed to the new cast, and the stories were too rote and bland.
I know a lot of people liked the newer Battlestar Galactica, but I never watched it. The first one was barely passable most of the time.
I enjoyed the Netflix reboot of Lost In Space more than the original. There were also some good episodes in the later reboots of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.

Apologies in advance for the negative post. I've never been a fan of re-boots (or movie re-makes). I tend to be biased towards the originals. I grew up in the '70's watching reruns of The Twilight Zone over and over again. When they rebooted it in the '80's, it just wasn't the same. Although, an anthology series like that seems ripe for a reboot because you're not rehashing the same characters from the original series. Rebooting Hawaii 5-0 or Magnum, P.I. just seems off because you're asking new actors to fill the shoes of the originals. How could you replace Tom Selleck? I also don't like the "reunion" type shows. ME-TV and FETV have been airing the Perry Mason movies from the '80's on Sunday nights. To me, watching Raymond Burr lumbering around at 300+ pounds in his late sixties was just sad and a pale comparison to the original series. I suppose these reboots aren't meant for codgers like me. I'm guessing that they're trying to attract younger audiences using tried and true vehicles. I think I'm going to stick with the originals. P.S. Get off my lawn!

What if there is no gap in time between the original and the reboot? Is it easier to accept?
The Andy Griffith Show morphed into Mayberry R.F.D. without missing a beat. Aunt Bee and several of the townspeople transferred over to the new series, but Ken Berry was brought in to replace Andy Griffith and Buddy Foster replaced Ron Howard. The final season had Alice Ghostley replacing Frances Bavier.
This spinoff/continuation lasted three years and was technically a reboot, to keep the franchise going.

I guess I don't have a clear idea of what constitutes a reboot. In my mind, Archie Bunker's Place is a reboot but Maude and The Jeffersons are spinoffs. Joanie Loves Chachi is a reboot but Mork and Mindy and Laverne and Shirley are spinoffs. Is this correct? By the way, I've never seen an episode of Mayberry RFD. It was a little before my time. I believe I've seen every episode of The Andy Griffith Show thanks to 50+ years of reruns. If Mayberry RFD reruns have ever aired, they flew beneath my radar.
