None of Tone's jokes are that funny, despite Linsay's apparent enjoyment.

She's basically repeating her performance from OF HUMAN BONDAGE...for which she really should have had an Oscar.

Bette at 26 just can't pull off the "worn out and haggard" thing they're calling her. She looks like creamy peach pie.

Dialogue is very unrealistic. Nobody would go up to a former star and say 'remember when you played such and such?' Of course they remember. Who wouldn't. It's just contrived artificial dialogue by screenwriter Laird Doyle to tell the audience she's an actress which we already know.

Anyone know the identity of the actress in the hanging picture?

The scene with Bette waking up in bed...if that had been performed by Claudette Colbert, she would not be turning her heard both ways...she'd only be photographed from one side!
***
Alison Skipworth works better in comedies with W.C. Fields and Mae West. She's a fine stage trained actress but comedy was her area of expertise.

Come on Bette, dial it down...give us some subtlety.

I can't watch Claudett Colbert movies for that very reason, I find myself constantly thinking about it and trying to catch that other side.

She's basically repeating her performance from OF HUMAN BONDAGE...for which she really should have had an Oscar. This character is much closer to Margo Channing, TB. She does a lot of the same thing in the Mank film.
