Oh good, I just happened to see this. I thought I had missed out and I still wouldn't have seen this because I was looking in the wrong thread. I'm looking forward to to the Margaret Lindsey part. I'm so glad you found it - it wouldn't be the same on Sunday without you.
Lindsay's part isn't big, but it is meaningful and, IMO, she always brings something nice to a role.
It's a fun movie, but it is a 1930s movie, so it's a bit different in pacing and style than what we've been doing.
I hope you like it; otherwise, Topbilled probably (and rightfully) won't let me choose any more movies as I don't think my last choice, "Cash on Demand" was a hit.

I’m just noticing this thread, too. Will definitely try to make it though I won’t be at home with my usual set up. I like Davis in just about anything. Thanks, FF. Btw, I enjoyed Cash on Demand! Did you ever get a chance to see the other Jack Hawkins (Alec Guinness) cat and mouse psycho thriller, The Prisoner?

Hope you can join us in some fashion tomorrow; it's a good Davis one that somehow flies under the radar.

I knew I had this film recorded somewhere. I like to create my own themes when I make discs.
I discovered that I have it on a disc with JEZEBEL called 'Bette Davis Oscar.'
I must say I am on an Ann Harding kick again, so hopefully we'll do an Ann Harding melodrama at some point!

I love your Ann Harding idea - she is a favorite of mine.
"Double Harness" would be great for Sunday live - very melodramatic. That said, "When Ladies Meet" and the "Animal Kingdom" would also be excellent choices. Harding does it so well and low-key you forget she's acting.

Low-key is a good way to describe her style, yet she still packs an emotional wallop. Another good one is PETER IBBETSON a Paramount classic that pairs her with Gary Cooper and features young Ida Lupino in a supporting role.

I'm surprised I've never seen "Peter Ibbetson," as those are three actors I love.

(I really liked "Cash on Demand!")
"Peter Ibbetson," is a favorite of mine. It's unlike anything else I've ever seen. Come to think of it "Animal Kingdom" is unique, too. Ann Harding, Leslie Howard and Myrna Loy all three are great.

I watched an episode of Wagon Train today on Starz from 1962 that featured Franchot Tone as the main guest. His days as a film star were pretty much over, though he'd still turn up in a few more Otto Preminger pictures. But he developed into a fine stage and television actor. He does a very nice job in 'The Malachi Hobart Story' as a conman passing himself off as a preacher.
If you look at Tone's filmography, you can see the studios often wasted him in parts supporting big name female costars...but he did appear in a variety of films across genres. And unlike some box office draws of his time, he wasn't afraid to set the romantic leading man stuff aside and play a villain as he does so well in PHANTOM LADY (1944) and THE MAN ON THE EIFFEL TOWER (1949).

Hope to see you all later today (1/22 at 3pm ET / 1pm MT), right here, in this thread, to view and chat about 1935's "Dangerous." In this short film (79 minutes), Bette Davis plays a Broadway star who is all but washed up due to alcoholism. Franchot Tone plays a fan of hers who tries to help Davis, against her wishes, revive her career. However, since Tone is engaged, as his involvement with Davis increases and takes on romantic overtones, complications ensue.
This is a link to a good, ad-free copy: "Dangerous"

Poor man probably felt like he was supporting a big name female star while he was married to Joan Crawford. I think he's a fine handsome actor with a charming smile.

I have nothing but respect for Crawford's acting abilities and career-management skills and I love her movies. But you couldn't pay me to marry her.
