That's a good guess. I wonder if the price of keeping the forums going would have been offset by the programming ideas and general feedback they got from it. I really don't think cost was a factor for the boards. I think it was more likely a "branding" thing. The boards were stale and seriously uncool. Wait... Are you suggesting we aren't cool!?!?
I also wondered if it was canceled because much of the threads near the end had nothing to do with TCM. The first thing they did was delete those off topic thread.

Individually some of us may be cool (not I) but as a forum, no, we are not cool. Forums are out of fashion generally, and the old boards were mainly political with a few alphabet games tossed in. TCM is trying to update its wardrobe, so to speak, and the message board was like an out of style piece of fashion.

As for cool, I think JamesjJazzGuitar is our only hope for a token cool poster.

"The TCM Forums content will remain available to view until February 15, 2023, so users may continue to have access to content. After this time, all customer data will be deleted from the forums."
That's tomorrow, folks!

All the posts on the TCM message boards are now gone except the one announcing the "sunsetting."

So, I guess no one reads this thread because Yancey made a new thread proclaiming that "The TCM Board is Now Officially Gone!" I posted about that last week. See above postings. I posted that last week. See above postings. Weird. I guess I'm not sitting at the cool kids table.

You aren't uncool. We tend not to post under the specific catagories. I'm not aware of the cool kids table-more like musical chairs.

I saw your comments a few days ago, but I wasn't sure how I felt about TCM's decision to remove its message boards. I didn't really have much to say on it...maybe because I am still processing it all, still in shock they did away with it. LOL

LOL I read somewhere, a thread here I think, that Internet Archive has saved some of the threads from the TCM board. But I agree, it's a shame that it's gone.

I generally post stuff under Classic Films.
There is no cool kids table on this sight. We're all cinema nerds!

I wasn't sure where to post this but in light of recent gloomy news about TCM, I was struck today by how much work goes into this beloved network.
I turned on TCM this morning, as I do most mornings, and caught part of a little promo about the importance of silent movies. There were perfect cuts from silent films while film experts including Jacqueline Stewart spoke about how beautiful, creative, funny and moving these movies can be.
One point that they made was that the average viewer might think a silent movie would be boring and primitive. Those would be people who have never seen something like The Crowd or Modern Times. Anyway, with the cut backs I'm afraid there won't be enough people to.make little promos like these. Also, it really makes the case to have a host who invites you to try a movie you might never choose from.a list on a streaming service.

www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/tcm-30th-anniversary-studio-tour-festival-1235786650/"Turner Classic Movies has a lot going on as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year." "In April, TCM will introduce a new franchise, Two for One, with prominent filmmakers co-hosting a double feature of their choice on Saturday nights. Guests will include Jenkins, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson, Spike Lee, Olivia Wilde, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Ethan Hawke, Todd Haynes and Maggie Gyllenhaal."
