Personally, I can't imagine being required to "profess love" for that band. But I can easily imagine they MUST have done better than that song. But, as the man said, ---"To each......"
But to move on...
Before Neil Schon and Gregg Rolie left Santana(who Rolie helped co-found) to co-found Journey, they could be heard on this Santana tune( and Schon's solo at the end showed signs of things to come. And I understand he was 17 at the time).

There's OSCAR MOORE, the too unsung jazz guitarist who was with Nat King Cole for years...

How about folks that most of the public had no idea they could play guitar(and do pretty damn good at it?). Like-------------

Like shooting fish in a barrel - everyone thinks they can play guitar, and drums for that matter... Joe Pesci and Jimi Hendrix both played with Joey Dee and the Starliters at The Peppermint Lounge in Manhattan...just not at the same time. That would have been a kick. Travis Tritt Joe Pesci Bible Belt (1992) Pesci plays Johnny B. Goode in his own colorful way in "Man on Fire" (1987) real...not real...but really funny

Tony Hicks of The Hollies is one of the most underrated guitarists of the last 60 years.

Nip has posted(in another page) that he shares a birthday with some actress. Same date but different years. I have the same birthdate as this guy(July 28), but I'm three years older. And sadly, the birthdates are the only thing we have in common. Sepiatone

Ah hah. Thank you. I couldn't for the life of me remember who replaced mr. pilgrim hat when I saw Deep Purple 8.0 or whatever they were up to in the 90s.
One of the best shows ever - not just because I am convinced Gillan played the entire show for me, but because the audience was all men and there was no line up for the restrooms. Yes, that's right, I am just this shallow and ridiculous.
I wish I could find my ruddy Gillan bio. His description of Ritchie showing up late one night to fire him and seeing just the top of his pilgrim hat coming up the walk....priceless.
>folks that most of the public had no idea they could play guitar(and do pretty damn good at it?)
Now think about this one for a moment before busting out the rolley eyes - Elvis Presley. Like his acting*, another lost opportunity, with his guitar becoming mostly a prop after Sun. *I really wish he had done A Star is Born with Babs
“The thing I really noticed that night, though, was his guitar playing,” recalled Johnny Cash. “Elvis was a fabulous rhythm player. He’d start into ‘That’s All Right, Mama’ with his own guitar alone, and you didn’t want to hear anything else."

That's true. Really, not many seemed to give Elvis the props he truly deserved for his guitar skills. I mean he'd put no scare into Scotty or Chet, but he did have a laudatory style about it. This clip(also from the famed 1968 Singer special) shows it well too.

He DID put a scare into Scotty. You gotta' love this tale:
The TV show filmed the in-the-round segments over two performances. The First “Sit Down” Show captures Moore’s Chet Atkins-influenced electric style, as he solos over That’s Alright and adds his signature licks to Heartbreak Hotel.
After a jokey rendition of Love Me, Elvis looks at Moore and says, “Let’s swap axes,” and hands Scotty his J200.
"He asks to borrow my guitar because his is not loud enough,” said Scotty. “Next time you see it, look at the expression on my face, like… I wish I'd thought fast enough to say, ‘No! Go get your own guitar!’”
Armed with the electric guitar, Elvis tears into Jimmy Reed’s Baby, What You Want Me To Do, with gusto, literally taking the lead. Back in front of an audience, playing the rhythm and blues he loves, his guitar playing is rough round the edges but tough and exciting. Boots are stomped, the musicians shout encouragement and a decade of hokey pop is forgiven.

My favorite guitarist doing an old favorite... Interesting...as in desert island favorite? I'll have to think about the one. DI picks are tough. I am still tracking non-guitarist guitarists. Andy Griffith could strum a note or two. Andy Griffith on The Arthur Smith Show in 1973
