Best Classic Bands interviewed Kim Simmonds in 2019… Which of the legendary blues artists would you single out as your favorite or the most important to you personally, and why?
Freddie King is one who stands out to me among the legendary blues artists now passed away. Freddie wasn’t smoothed out and always played with energy and passion. I copied him. He also played Gibson guitars rather than Fender guitars and that influenced me too. Freddie had the energy we now associate with rock ’n’ roll. His blues rocked and was straight-ahead. You are also a painter. How does painting compare to making music?
As regards your personality, it comes out in the same way. If you’re spontaneous you’ll play or paint that way. Likewise, if you’re studious, that will reflect in your art. My solos in the recording studio are mostly first takes and my painting is also quick and in the moment. Personality is everything in music and art, in my opinion, of course, and you shouldn’t hide behind a facade. Just be yourself, for better or worse. Savoy Brown - Hard Way to Go

I like all the Kings (B B, Albert, Freddy etc.) and of course, one of my favorite late '60's blues pickers came to my attention by playing a cover of this Freddy King tune....
And I surely do miss JAY LENO hosting the TONIGHT SHOW. Not only because I think he's way funnier than Jimmy Fallon could ever hope to be, but because of the show's band being lead by THIS great guitarist..

I never got over Craig Kilborn. I only seem to warm up to replacements two minutes before they leave - Craig Ferguson took me forever and then James Corden. Seems I am very slow to adapt....or very faithful and dedicated.

Never caring much for Kilborn, I was glad when he left THE DAILY SHOW and then left THE LATE, LATE SHOW. And since Ferguson left that show I've been getting more sleep. Really miss him. Took to Craig straight off. Always loved it that whenever he'd mention anything concerning Paul McCartney he'd show a photo of Angela Lansbury. Sepiatone

Ha I forgot about the Sir Paul / Angela prank. I love being on Sir P's email list. It always seems to arrive at just the right time, spiritually & metaphorically speaking, always entitled What's That You're Doing. I only saw him live once but it was fabulous. He never took a break, played forever - just amazing & fun. My eyebrows were singed off with all the Live and Let Die pyrotechnics - delicious.
Having said that....we have a music shop here with a sign posted banning two songs from being played when trying out the guitars. This is one of them. Makes me laugh. I pity the fools who are broken hearted over the sight of it.

1. I like that you refer to him as "Sir Paul" and not MACCA . 2. Always admired Linda McCartney(nee: Eastman) as a photographer and am curious of how all those shots she took in that clip turned out. She did after all, take all those photos seen on the inside of the Hendrix "Electric Ladyland" vinyl LP cover. Sepiatone

I never understood the MACCA bit. What is the source of this nickname? Please tell me here and don't make me apply it permanently to my horrible Google history. I'm expecting knocks and the door anytime now as it is.
I could kick myself for leaving a book of Linda's photos at a bookstore many moons ago. At the time I found the pictures just average and pedestrian. Aye me. Everything is so black and white when you are young. Now everything it seems - including her, her photos, her legacy - are all gray and convoluted for me.
You can see in that Bluebird snip what a special connection they have - and he loved her so, always promoting and using her work.

Have no idea where "Macca" came from. Maybe the same group of fools that thought calling Keith Richards "Keef" was cool. (see? "Rolleyes" needed here).

Today I am broken hearted. Mosh cam footages from the Inspiral Carpets reunion tour reveal no broken fences have been mended. Tom Hingley is still out as lead singer.
I would like to insert many many many expletives here....damn.
Who knew this catastrophe would rival The Eagles When Hell Freezes Over or The Go-Go's voted by Rolling Stone as the band least likely to ever re-unite.
I came across them by accident walking by a club one night and throwing caution to the wind based on their dizzy band name. So many great memories of all the Madchester bands - other than almost getting squashed at Teenage Fanclub and crushed to death at Stone Roses.
Have you ever had your heart crushed and kicked to the curb by band politics?

Never heard of that band, but after viewing the clip I really don't feel deprived.
Well, I can't say I've had my heart "crushed" by band politics(either famous bands or the ones I was in).
But was saddened and disappointed when some I liked broke up. Like THE BEATLES, THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION, THE JAMES GANG, ELP, ELO, The original MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA to name a few. And others went through personnel changes, some OK and others not. Like YES replacing Steve Howe with TREVOR RABIN, who is a fantastic guitarist, but not really a good fit with Yes. And BILL BRUFORD leaving YES and replaced by Alan White. Oh, And The JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE parting ways.

I guess it would be more expedient to list bands not impacted by fault lines. If there are any.
I quite enjoyed Peter Jackson's The Beatles: Get Back but felt very uncomfortable with my Yoko feelings. I am really trying to get over it/them/her but I just don't understand what happened, why she was constantly there - as menace? protector? lover? fighter?
You are very lucky to have such a wide selection of music that could be used in a living will. For me there is only one artist, nay song, that I truly dislike. Family & friends are under strict orders to play it ASAP should I slip into a coma. I am convinced I will sit bolt upright, rip off all medical connections and run to whatever device is playing the song to shut it off.
This isn't it.

David Bowie - Queen B*tch (Old Grey Whistle Test, 1972) My understanding is that Yoko was "there" because this was one way for John to make-up for how he treated her most of the time, which was like crap. John was also becoming more and more lazy by the minute. The band only survived the last 2 years or so due to the drive of Paul. But such drive can wear out others, and it clearly annoyed John. John wanted to move on and break free and, to a lesser degree, so did Paul, so that is what happen. To me the primary magic of The Beatles was the songwriting tantrum of John and Paul. Even when one of them would only add a lyric or recommend a subtle change to the music, the end result was better. Once they were no longer getting together on a very periodic basis to create songs, it was time to break up the band.

I can see John's problems and motivations but I don't understand what Yoko got out of this scenario, sitting there like a strange silent sentinel. I want to see her as the first punk rock girl singer ever but I am struggling to reframe her legacy. I am certain the problem rests entirely within me, I just don't know where to look for dropped stitches. If I read this fabulous review a few more times maybe my vision will improve - I hope. The Sublime Spectacle of Yoko Ono Disrupting the BeatlesIn Peter Jackson’s “The Beatles: Get Back,” Ono is a performance artist at the height of her powers. www.nytimes.com/2021/12/08/arts/music/yoko-ono-beatles-get-back.htmlAt first I found Ono’s omnipresence in the documentary bizarre, even unnerving. The vast set only emphasizes the ludicrousness of her proximity. Why is she there? I pleaded with my television set. But as the hours passed, and Ono remained — painting at an easel, chewing a pastry, paging through a Lennon fan magazine — I found myself impressed by her stamina, then entranced by the provocation of her existence and ultimately dazzled by her performance. My attention kept drifting toward her corner of the frame. I was seeing intimate, long-lost footage of the world’s most famous band preparing for its final performance, and I couldn’t stop watching Yoko Ono sitting around, doing nothing.
