Been an interesting time so far! To be honest I can't really tell exactly where the forum is going but I've certainly had fun with everyone I've come into contact with - especially Mr. Top Billed. Kudos for a nice beginning, Sir. Hope the forum grows and prospers in 2023. Congrats on a nice TCM Forum transition.
Happy New Year All!!!

Well said, Ando! I, too, am grateful to TopBilled for creating this for us. I've belonged to lots of message boards, but this is the first time I've got in on the ground floor, so that I feel like I know everyone. Here's hoping we get more members soon! Happy New year everyone!

I can only echo Ando and Andrea Doria in, first, thanking Topbilled for creating this site and, then, saying how much I've enjoyed being in at the start of a forum. It's been fun.
Happy New Year all.

What lovely posts. And happy new year to all.
I was telling a friend of mine on the phone yesterday afternoon that I actually cherished parts of 2022 and didn't want it to end, but at the same time, I was looking forward to the good things in 2023.
So here we are, starting another year...

So here we are, starting another year... I’m glad that many of us from the old TCM Board (and anyone else who wants to join in) have a place to gather as we move into 2023. Thanks TB, and all the CFTR members, for making this a good place to be!

Happy New Year Everyone!
I don’t really have anything new or original to contribute to this thread. All I can do is echo the sentiments of the above posters, and I would especially like to extend a belated thank you to TopBilled for creating this website.

I still marvel at the fact that I'm actually seeing 2023!
Just 23 years ago we all thought the world was going to end. Since then it's even felt like it a couple of times but here we are! Wishing everyone good health and happiness in this New Year!

This morning I went for a quick walk between downpours (we are having a rainstorm here in north Phoenix). And as I came back inside the building and started up the stairwell, I saw my downstairs neighbor. He turned 97 on Christmas Day. He is just so agile and so active. He's actually the president of our condo homeowners association board.
I said, "we made it to 2023" and his eyes lit up. As I finished up the stairs and into my place, I realized, he was born in 1925 when silent films were all the rage. He served in World War II. Counting 1925, up to 2023, this is the 99th year he's been part of...and that's amazing!

Mostly an Eastern European/Slavic custom and superstition. Putting money outside the door before the strike of midnight heralding the new year and bringing it back inside afterwards(any time after will do) means you'll go without want in the new year. Want being need for food, shelter and basic needs. The amount of money put out doesn't matter. Just whatever change in your pocket will do. Other variations are to just throw some money out the door for the poor and hungry. Your kindness will be rewarded by going without want. My family usually did the first variant I mentioned. During my wife's first marriage in the late '50's she and her first husband lived on a street in a largely Polish community. Coincidentally, on the same street my Mother used to live on in the mid '40's. Turned out to be a different block though. Well, one New Year's Day morning she went to the corner store, still open on that day because she noted they were short on milk. And when walking down the sidewalk she noticed all the coins all over the sidewalk. She couldn't figure it out at the time. Sepiatone
