I saw My Octopus Teacher (2020, Netflix) when it came out, and I've thought about it many times since.
Craig Foster, founder of Sea Change Project, spent about a year returning each day to a lagoon where he met with a common octopus. Foster and the female octopus struck up a friendship that endured and grew through their time together. The film is a showcase for the intelligence, humor, and resilience of the common octopus. Foster credits this octopus and his relationship with her for strengthening his relationship with his own son.
This is a beautifully photographed film, and the narration is informative and sometimes quite emotional. My Octopus Teacher was the winner of both the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and the BAFTA for Best Documentary in 2021.
Highly recommend. If you get the chance, don't miss it.
