It's nice to see TCM go real-early Hollywood with the SOTM now and then.

I agree. So the pattern seems to be...week one-- silents; week two-- silents and transition to sound; week three-- sound films at mgm; and week four-- mostly sound films at warner brothers where she finished her career.
She was sought for the role of Dorothy McGuire's mother in 20th Century Fox's hit film CLAUDIA (1943) meaning she was still in demand and could have bounced back after the unflattering thinly disguised portrayal of her in CITIZEN KANE (1941)...but Hearst wouldn't let her take the role in CLAUDIA, since it was third-billed and he considered her a top-billed star. So she turned it down, and the part went to Ina Claire.
It's a shame that she wasn't allowed to evolve into a character actress in supporting roles. She was a fine actress.

My great-great uncle was Ira H. Morgan, cinematographer on four of Marion Davies' films: Bride's Play, Beauty's worth, When Knighthood was In Flower and Little Old New York. Ira died in 1959, when I was age 6, but I do recall visiting him in his home in the Hollywood Hills. My parents and brother all wrote about Uncle Ira and anecdotes about his life and career. Ira's wife was Rena Carlton who was a stand-in for Marion. But I need to do more research, starting with reading the new bio by Lara Gabrielle. Marion gifted Ira with an engraved silver cocktail set and other luxury items, all which were willed to his niece who took care of him in his last illness. Our family has custody of many of his books.
