I saw Becky Nurse of Salem (by Sarah Rule) yesterday afternoon, at Lincoln Center Theater, which is my neighbourhood theater. I was only able to stay for Act I, since I have a lot of prep to do for Christmas dinner, but Act I being the longest act, I did get a good gist of the play. The play focuses on a contemporary descendant of Rebecca Nurse, a woman who was executed for witchcraft in Salem in 1692. Pretty good production, great cast, but not a great play. I also went to an exhibit at the New York Historical Society the other day, "The Salem Witch Trials," which was very disappointing. Too much attempt to connect the women of 1692 to the new-age witches of today. The Variety review gives a good summary of the play: variety.com/2022/legit/reviews/becky-nurse-of-salem-review-play-sarah-ruhl-deirdre-oconnell-1235453107/
