I hate to ask a stupid question but I have never attended the TCM Film Festival before and am a bit confused about what you get for the various "tiers" of passes. Do any or all of the festival passes include admittance to any or all of the films at the festival? Or are the tickets for the "events" and "receptions" at the Festival. Because, frankly, I am way more interested in the films. Former attendees, enlighten me!

I have not been to the Festival either but would like to look into it as well, so here is my understanding of things for you to compare with your own take: - The purpose of the passes is to give access to a line of attendees waiting to see a film (most of the seats are not assigned). Attendees in this line are given seats in the theater until the theater is full. If the theater does not fill up, then individual seating tickets can be redeemed. - The pass levels are described at filmfestival.tcm.com/attend/As I read the various levels of passes there are limitations on which theaters are available. All of the passes include access to all of the theaters Fri through Sun, with the exception of the TCL Chinese 6 and Club TCM. Palace - 3-day access Fri. through Sun., but does not include access to TCL Chinese 6 and Club TCM. Classic - 4-day access at all of the venues (including TCL Chinese 6 and Club TCM), not including the Opening Night Red Carpet screening or party. Essential - includes Red Carpet screening on Thurs. at TCL Chinese 6 Spotlight - priority entry to all screenings, plus access to Opening Night party. The Thursday films appear to be associated with the TCL Chinese 6 and Club TCM venues, and require at least a Classic Pass to attend. The Classic Pass includes Thurs. access to Club TCM and possibly films shown later at the TCL Chinese 6 after the Red Carpet screening, and also access to these venues on Fri. through Sun. The Essential pass is needed to go to the Red Carpet screening. The Spotlight pass gives you quicker access to the theaters and access to special events. Sorry that I don’t have TCMFF experience but maybe someone who does can correct or enhance these comments. Unfortunately I don’t think they list the films showing at each theater until a few weeks before the festival.
