As a kid I recall having seen several PSAs (as I didn't know then what they were called) that I wonder if anyone else remembers.
One, of several others put out by the same organization, dealt with traffic and driving safety, dealt with something called "TURNPIKE TRANCE". It started out with stock footage of cars traveling down a roadway and a voice-over of what was presumed to be a teen-aged boy(who to me sounded like the Beaver's older brother) asking, "Hey, Dad......what's "turnpike trance"? And an older sounding masculine voice would take over explaining what it was with a montage of film clips showing a man driving a car while the voice-over went on about how driving for many miles in monotony could cause the driver to become blurry eyed and sleepy putting him and others to be in danger of him falling asleep at the wheel. Then mentioning things like rolling down the window to help keep awake while driving, or playing the radio loud and maybe even singing along with a song on the radio, all the while showing film footage of the same driver doing all of this. I don't recall the name of the orginization that produced these spots, but they all ended with footage of a car, presumed to have been in a crash, noticeably lying on it's side with a lone car wheel spinning.
Another one started with The Everly Brothers singing a quick line from "Bye, Bye Love" and then talking about something or other I don't remember.
Then there were several that went on about what to do in case of FALLOUT. Instructing us what to do when nuclear fallout was threatening us. And PSAs informing us how, in case of such emergency, to find CONELRAD on our radios. And of course showing footage of car and home table radios that had the Civil Defense circle with a triangle in it placed where the frequency for Conelrad can be found.
I also remember an often shown clip of film that showed Soviet premier NIKITA KRUSHCHEV famously pounding a table with his shoe. The spot was warning about the danger the Soviet Union posed and steps to take to prevent it. So, am I nuts( ) or does anyone else recall any of these?
