143 The Trap Outline written by Jarrod McDonald, c) 2023
The captain has been revived. Hospital security are looking for Nevaeh. Jude and Amanda show up. They speak to Birdie who gives a description of Nevaeh dressed as a nurse. This is intercut with shots of Nevaeh getting away and going underground.
A short time later Bernice has shown up. She is brought up to speed about what has happened. The captain’s now in a coma and Bernice fears the worst. Birdie dials Adrian and asks him to come by, since they all could use prayer and guidance.
Jude and Amanda return to the precinct to strategize while Ryan and Tyrone. They discuss all possible leads in finding Nevaeh. Jude and Amanda aren’t sure whether or not Nevaeh has her own agenda, or if she is in cahoots with an old enemy of the captain’s. They bring up the idea of ex-mayor Henry Clovis being behind it, but realize this doesn’t fit his style. Plus Clovis is still out of the country.
Next Jude dials Kokoy who comes by. Kokoy says he and the captain are on good terms, though they haven’t seen each other in awhile. He’s sad about what’s happened. It is said that Shiro is still incarcerated somewhere, but Kokoy insists he hasn’t heard from Shiro in a long time.
Is it possible Nevaeh’s working for Shiro? Or is it unrelated? After Kokoy exits, Amanda thinks they need to take a break and order some food. While waiting for a delivery from Biggie’s, Amanda asks Jude how his home life is going. Jude says Sonja is debating selling the coffee shop, to spend more time with Nathan during the daytime. As for Jim, he and Charita have done renovations on the apartment building, but Jim isn’t always himself. Amanda reacts.
At the hospital Bernice is talking to the captain, who is still comatose. She says he needs to wake up so they can be a family again. Lance has just stepped into the room and has heard this. Bernice asks Lance to try speaking to his father, in the hopes that it’ll prompt the captain to wake up. While Lance talks to his dad, Bernice looks out the window. The sun has gone down, and it’s snowing.
We cut to Ryan and Tyrone dressed in plain clothes, pursuing a lead about Nevaeh which turns out to be a dead end. It’s led them to a gay club on the north side. Ryan and Tyrone have been at the bar, asking the patrons some questions. A regular thinks they’re a couple and wants to have a threesome with them. Disco music is playing. The guy doesn’t get anywhere with them. But Ryan finds him harmless and amusing.
While this is going on, we cut to the Salerno mansion. Schuyler has come to talk to Naldo and Sandra about his marriage to Ryan. They tell him it sounds like he still wants things to work out with Ryan. This is intercut with Ryan and Tyrone leaving the club, realizing it was a dead end. As they reach the squad car, Tyrone impulsively leans in and kisses Ryan.
Back at the Salernos, Schuyler plays with Vito and it makes him think of Petey. Sandra says Schuyler and Ryan can have a family if they want it.
We cut to the hospital. Lance left to check on Heidi and Shannon. Bernice maintains a vigil at the captain’s bedside. She refuses to leave, afraid that Nevaeh will find a way back in. She just wants the captain to wake up.
The next morning Lance brings Heidi and Shannon by. Will some more familiar voices and activities help the captain wake up? Jude shows up. While Heidi and Shannon talk to the captain, Jude steps into the hall with Bernice and Lance. He says he has a plan to flush Nevaeh out.
Dissolve to later. Jude and Amanda hold a press conference with Ashley Clark’s help. They tell viewers the captain’s awake and demanding he be allowed to go home to rest. This is all a ruse, since the captain is still comatose, but he’s been moved to another wing of the hospital under a fake name so that Nevaeh will think he really woke up and went home.
We cut to the captain’s condo in Schaumburg a short time later. Jude is resting on the sofa, bundled up, pretending to be the captain. Amanda is posing as a nurse looking after him. Ryan and Tyrone are out in an unmarked van doing surveillance. They briefly reference what happened between them the day before. Tyrone wonders if Ryan will tell Schuyler.
A UPS truck pulls up and a “male” delivery person hops out with a package. It’s really Nevaeh in drag. She gets inside the condominium complex and gains access into the captain’s condo, while nurse Amanda is supposedly out of the room. But Amanda is hiding in the shadows. She comes up behind Nevaeh who tries to knife Jude whom she thinks is the captain. Amanda wrestles the knife away.
Jude helps subdue Nevaeh and they arrest her. Amanda calls Ryan and Tyrone and asks what the hell they’ve been doing out in the van? How did they let Nevaeh get by them?
In the next part Ryan and Tyrone are taking Nevaeh to the precinct. Amanda is washing her arm, since Nevaeh nicked her with the blade of the knife. Jude is on the phone with Bernice, who’s still at the hospital. He tells her that Nevaeh was caught. Bernice is grateful.

144 It Is Not Complicated If You Do It Correctly Outline written by Jarrod McDonald, c) 2023
The episode begins with a rollback. Jude is on the phone telling Bernice that Nevaeh was caught. She’s grateful. We stay with Bernice after the call. The captain’s eyes are just opening. He’s awake, thank god. Tears stream down Bernice’s cheek. She kisses the captain on the forehead.
At the precinct, Nevaeh is booked. She is refusing to tell Ryan and Tyrone what she had against the captain. But then she finally admits she was Morgana Ellison’s estranged wife, and that Morgana had secretly fallen for the captain and did not want to reconcile with her. After Morgana died, without Nevaeh there with her in her final moments, Nevaeh decided she would find a way to make the captain suffer.
Nevaeh is led to a holding cell. Ryan calls Jude who is now at the hospital, to tell him what Nevaeh’s motive was. Jude lets Ryan know that the captain is awake. Amanda is entering the precinct when Ryan tells everyone the good news.
Schuyler comes by the precinct to talk to Ryan. Tyrone watches them go into the conference room. Schuyler says he wants to stay married, and he wants him and Ryan to have their own family. He hopes this is what Ryan wants too. Ryan says yes and they kiss.
As Tyrone moves off, feeling rejected, Amanda stops him in his tracks and tells him there will be someone for him. Tyrone forces a smile. This is interrupted when an emergency situation is phoned in…something just happened at the hotel. Amanda realizes Birdie is the one who dialed 911. She rushes over there.
In the next scene Amanda arrives at the hotel. Fronklin brings Amanda up to speed and says Jarrett is with Birdie. Amanda is then led into the opulent suite that Birdie moved into after marrying Dolph. It is said that Dolph choked to death on something he ate. Fronklin and Jarrett leave the suite, and Amanda consoles Birdie.
Birdie insists this was no accidental death. Her husband was murdered. Amanda asks how Birdie can be so sure. Birdie says her husband never ate pretzels, especially the brand on the bag found near his lifeless body. Dolph hated pretzels and was gluten intolerant. Birdie claims someone must’ve forced a pretzel down Dolph’s throat and that is what killed him. Amanda reacts, finding this all a bit hard to believe.
In a montage of scenes, time passes. Birdie has accepted she is widowed, but she still doesn’t accept the coroner’s report her husband died accidentally. She still insists he was forced to eat a deadly pretzel. At the same time Dieter visits Taina in prison and tells her Dolph’s dead. She claims she got over Dolph and no longer had feelings for him. Dieter says he knows who gave Dolph the fatal pretzel. Taina couldn’t care less and exits the visiting room without hearing the rest of what he says.
Back at the hotel, Birdie intends to hire a private detective to look into Dolph’s death. But she isn’t happy at the prices some of them charge.
Meanwhile, Robert Arden is back in Chicago for a visit. He just checked into the hotel, and he learns about Birdie’s situation. He no longer appears on TV as Steve Cade. But he does know a lot about detective work, and despite his wacky ways and increasing dementia, he helps Birdie prove Dolph was murdered.
The murderer turns out to be Dieter who was always jealous of Dolph and angry at living in his brother’s shadow all these years. Birdie learns from fictional character Steve Cade how the murder was committed. She goes to confront Dieter who then tries to force her to eat a pretzel. But Birdie had pretzels banned from the premises, and Dieter has instead grabbed some CrackerStax, and those go down easier.
Steve Cade makes a citizen’s arrest of Dieter Mobley. He then hauls Deiter to the precinct, before he reverts back to being Robert Arden again. Robert’s latest exploits as Steve Cade have attracted media coverage and new interest in him. He is invited to appear at a TV fan convention in New Orleans., where he can sell autographs for a bundle. As he leaves the hotel, Birdie asks what she owes him. He says nothing, just a promise that the hotel will never run out of CrackerStax.
With Dolph’s killer apprehended, Birdie’s life can get back to normal. Adrian and Agnes come by to see Birdie the next day and realize she’s bored. Adrian suggests she put on a talent show to benefit homeless youth. Birdie likes that idea and will have Fronklin and Jarrett help.
We cut to a week later. Birdie hosts a spectacular talent show in the hotel lounge. She sings ‘God Bless the Child’ then turns it over to Bradley and his friends from Holy Name School who perform various acts on stage. During the show, Gisselle shows up to watch Bradley and sends pics to Amanda who’s on duty.
While all of this is going on, Venus and her girls come into the hotel. It is revealed the motel just burned to the ground and they have nowhere else to go.
Jude and Amanda arrive a short time later to arrest Venus, after they’ve heard a confession from an arsonist who said he was paid by Venus. Venus admits business has been floundering without Sugar’s guidance. Venus couldn’t think of any other way to bring in money except to set a fire and collect from the insurance company.
As Venus is hauled off, Birdie tells Cocoa and the other girls she’ll look after them. Amanda steps into the lounge to watch Bradley perform. Gisselle tells Amanda she’s a good mom.

145 Mothers and Sons Outline written by Jarrod McDonald, c) 2023
It’s been a few weeks since the previous episode. The captain is out of the hospital and he calls Jude at the precinct one morning to drive out to his place for a chat. Jude will visit this afternoon when he has time.
Meanwhile Adrian is concerned about Birdie’s reputation now that she has all those prostitutes staying at the hotel. In Agnes’ words, it has become a bonafide house of sin. But Birdie says she is in the process of rehabilitating those girls and giving them a chance at a proper life. They just need to have a little faith in what’s she doing. Adrian reacts.
Back at the precinct Gisselle stops by to see Amanda. Bradley is still living with her. But Gisselle says Bradley heard from Gary whose job down south is finishing. Gary will be driving up this way to get Bradley in a few days, to take him to Seattle. Amanda reacts.
In the next scene Amanda goes to have lunch with Bradley at the school, to talk to him about moving to Seattle. Bradley does’t want to go, since he fears he’ll never see Amanda and Gisselle again. Bradley is still having occasional counseling sessions with Ross. Amanda will speak to Ross.
Meanwhile, Jude has stopped by the apartment building to have lunch with Sonja and Nathan, before heading to Schaumburg to meet with the captain. The main hallway is cluttered with boxes. Sonja tells Jude that Jim and Charita had a fight, and Charita is moving out. Jude offers to talk to them, but Sonja advises letting things cool down.
After lunch, Jude does have a brief word with Jim who’s angry about the way Charita has been reorganizing stuff, which he blames on why he can’t find certain things, not forgetfulness. Jude reacts. A mailman comes by and hands a letter to Jude. Jim notices the return address is Oak Haven. But Jude doesn’t recognize the handwriting on the envelope. He takes it with him on his way to see the captain.
A short time later Charita returns to the apartment building to try and talk sense to Jim, which doesn’t go the way she’d hoped. She calls a guy she knows to come get the rest of her boxes in the hallway, then she finds Sonja to say goodbye to her and Nathan. Sonja notices a bruise on Charita’s arm, which Charita says Jim gave her but doesn’t remember.
Sonja asks where Charita is going. Charita says she is not returning to Arizona, because she’s optimistic that she and Jim can reconcile, if Jim gets help. Charita tells Sonja about a temporary place place she found a few streets over, where she will stay for now. Sonja will stay in touch.
In the next scene, the last of Charita’s boxes are hauled off by the guy she called. Jim is watching from the upper landing on the stairwell as Charita leaves. Good riddance, he grumbles. But Sonja can see he’s hurting.
We cut to Jude arriving at the captain’s condo in Schaumburg. Before he gets out of the car, he opens the envelope the mailman delivered to him earlier. There’s a note inside from someone who works at Oak Haven where his mom was institutionalized. A letter had been accidentally put into another patient’s file and when that person died recently, and their files were gone over, it was found. Jude realizes the letter is in his mom’s handwriting, written by Kathryn Anthony just before she died.
In the next scene Jude has gone inside the captain’s place, but he’s a bit distracted, thinking about what he’s just read. The captain offers some coffee and tells Jude that he’s not sure if he’ll be returning to the force. This is news to Jude. The captain says his recent near-death experience made him think about retiring and spending time with family. He says he’s going to ask Bernice to marry him. Jude’s happy for him.
We cut back to the apartment building in Chicago. Sonja talks with Jim about Charita. She thinks Jim’s memory loss is increasing and suspects he has Alzheimer’s. But if she said this aloud, Jim would get defensive. After her talk with Jim, she calls Charita who’s unpacking boxes at the other place. Sonja mentions her suspicions about Jim. Charita confirms that Jim did receive this type of diagnosis already. But he’s in denial, and that’s the root of what they’ve been fighting about. Sonja’s sad to hear it.
We go to the Amanda. She is on rounds and gets a call about a break-in at a penthouse on Michigan Avenue. She drives over there. The person who called the police is someone she knows: Maeve Dennison, the wealthy socialite from Lake Forest Amanda tangled with in the season 2 episode ‘Amanda’s Place.’ It seems Maeve had come by to visit her son Noah and his wife Mia. But found Mia dead and Noah in a drunken state.
Amanda has no choice but to arrest Noah, since he admits that he did it. But Maeve insists Noah really didn’t do it. In the next part Amanda does some checking into the Dennisons’ situation. She learns from a broker the Dennisons had gone belly up due to bad investments and were living off Mia’s fortune. But Mia wanted to divorce Noah because he could be abusive.
As Amanda leaves, we see Blane Murdock come by to talk to the broker. Blane has also made some bad investments and regrets what he’s done. He tries to get a loan but is denied. He isn’t looking forward to going home and seeing Yvette, who always warns him about bad investments.
We cut back to the Dennisons. Maeve has hired a shrewd lawyer who based on a discussion with Maeve and Dr. Ross Jax, says Noah has an alternate personality. The other personality killed Mia, not Noah. Amanda doesn’t remember Noah exhibiting such traits when they dated.
Amanda goes to visit Ross at his office, and he confirms that Noah did struggle with DIDS. Noah won’t be convicted now, but will spend the rest of his life at Oak Haven.
After Amanda returns to the precinct to close out the case, she gets a visit from Maeve, and it’s not friendly. Maeve tells Amanda she’ll never forgive her for arresting Noah and humiliating him. Amanda insists she was only doing her job. Maeve says if Amanda was a mother she’d understand the pain Maeve’s had to endure. Amanda reacts.
In the last scene Amanda spends the day with Bradley at Gisselle’s home. It his thirteenth birthday and the last day he’ll be in Chicago before he heads to Seattle to live with Gary.

146 On the Road, Part 1 Outline written by Jarrod McDonald, c) 2023
It’s the morning Bradley is leaving Chicago. He has breakfast with Amanda and Gisselle and shows them some gifts his friends at school and Sister Agnes gave him. Amanda says she has sent money to Gary to pay for Bradley’s tuition at a Catholic School in Seattle. But Gisselle is not so practical. She’s bought Bradley a car, which she is keeping in her garage for him to come back and use when he’s sixteen. Bradley can’t wait. A car honks outside Gisselle’s home. It’s time for Bradley to go.
We learn that Gisselle is overseeing a beauty pageant and can’t leave, and Amanda is in the middle of a new case at the precinct. So Jude has offered to take Bradley from Chicago to a town in Iowa where Gary will meet them with his rig. Then Gary and Bradley will drive to Seattle.
Amanda walks Bradley down to the ride share where Jude’s waiting. She tells Bradley that he probably doesn’t want a kiss since he’s not a little kid, but they hug. Gisselle takes a picture of them. The women tell Bradley to call as soon as he meets up with Gary. He promises to do that. Bradley then hops into the car. He and Jude wave and take off.
Amanda needs to get to the precinct. She can see Gisselle is crying softly. Amanda gives her mom a hug then heads to work. We cut to Jude and Bradley arriving in the ride share at a bus terminal. Jude presents the bus driver with tickets then helps put Bradley’s luggage below. Dahlia shows up to see Bradley off. She kisses him goodbye. Jude pretends not to pay attention.
The bus driver tells the passengers to finish boarding. They need to leave. This will only be a three hour trip into Iowa where Jude and Bradley will stop in a small town to meet up with Gary. But on the way there, a very tense situation occurs on the charter bus.
As the bus pulls away from the depot and Dahlia waves to Bradley, we cut to the Salerno mansion. Naldo and Sandra facilitate a talk between Ryan and Schuyler who haven’t been speaking since Ryan admitted to having sex with Tyrone, something Schuyler also did, a year ago. It’s a complex situation and both are at fault.
The Murdocks are bringing Petey over for lunch. Sandra invited them so Vito can play with Petey. Also, she hopes that having the baby around will help Ryan and Schuyler reprioritize and decide what’s important.
At the same time Tyrone is at the precinct helping Amanda with the case they’re working on. During a break in examining evidence, he admits he is distracted and says he slept with Ryan. He admits he had also slept with Schuyler a year earlier. Amanda doesn’t know what to say to him. Tyrone doesn’t know what to say either, except he put in for a transfer.
Amanda thinks Tyrone is a good cop, no longer a rookie, and someone who has learned from experience. She’d hate for him to transfer. But she understands it might be for the best, given the circumstances. Plus she respects the fact that Tyrone has to do what’s best for him. She will give provide a good word if someone from the other precinct where Tyrone has applied, calls for a work-related reference. Tyrone appreciates that.
We go back to the charter bus. The driver has had a serious heart attack on the highway. Jude’s quick thinking saved the day, as Jude ended up taking over at the wheel, preventing any deaths. But the bus did rear end another vehicle, and while roadside assistance comes, nobody is going anywhere. Jude calls Sonja to tell her what happened, but says not to worry. He then dials Amanda, but gets voicemail and leaves a message.
Meanwhile at the Salerno mansion, Sandra is worried that the Murdocks haven’t shown up for lunch. The food’s getting cold, so they start to eat without them. Things are still tense between Ryan and Schuyler. Ryan’s phone rings. It’s Amanda. She’s on her way over.
In the next part Amanda arrives with Petey. She hands the child to Sandra who doesn’t understand. Amanda steps off to the side with Ryan. The person she and Tyrone had been investigating was Blane Murdock who was about to be brought up on charges of embezzling.
After a series of bad investments, Blane stole from the company where he’s employed as an accountant, to cover his losses. When Yvette found out what Blane did, she confronted him and threatened to leave with Petey. Blane snapped. He shot Yvette then shot and killed himself. The baby was sleeping peacefully in the other room. Blane was pronounced dead at the scene, but Yvette was rushed to the hospital where she had emergency surgery and lapsed into a coma.
Amanda received a call from Ashley Clark who’d gone over to visit the Murdocks and found them. Ashley looked after Petey, until Amanda could get him checked out and brought over here. Ryan glances at Petey, whom Sandra just placed in Schuyler’s arms.

147 On the Road, Part 2 Outline written by Jarrod McDonald, c) 2023
Sonja is checking on Jim while Jude’s away. She gets a text. Jude and Bradley have just met up with Gary in Iowa. They were delayed because of the bus accident. Gary is now behind schedule. He thanks Jude for bringing Bradley who hops into the rig with his luggage. As they get on the highway, Jude reminds Bradley to text Amanda, which he does.
Jude has to wait a bit to get a return bus back to Chicago. He calls Sonja to say Bradley’s now on his way to Seattle. Sonja tries to tell Jude about Jim not being very lucid, but changes her mind, as it will just worry him on the road. They can discuss it when Jude gets back.
Jude has to go, because the return bus just pulled up. After the call ends, Sonja’s phone rings again. It’s Dewey who is dealing with a very unruly customer. The person has been known to become violent. Charita has just come by to get something she left behind. Charita offers to look after Nathan, so Sonja can go help Dewey. Sonja quickly exits.
After Charita checks to make sure Nathan’s still asleep, she heads to the other apartment she shared with Jim. The door’s open and Jim is gone. When Sonja returns an hour later, she learns from Charita that Jim is not around. Charita’s been calling Jim but there’s no answer.
Sonja then dials Jim, and he answers her call. He says he is on his way to the bus depot to meet Jude. But Jude won’t be in for at least two more hours. Sonja tells Jim to come back home. He gets angry and in a state of confusion tells her he’s on the case and looking into it. In his mind he’s still a cop on the force, talking to a dispatcher.
Charita stays with Nathan, and Sonja hurries to the depot to intercept Jim. But Jim’s bought a ticket and hopped on a bus that he thinks will take him somewhere to meet Jude. Sonja is frantic to find out where Jim went. She learns from the ticket agent that Jim is on a route that’ll make a stop in Naperville. She gets in her car and heads there to intercept him.
Back at the depot a while later, we see Jude’s bus pulls into the station. He doesn’t find Sonja waiting as she promised. He texts her but she’s caught in a storm just outside Naperville. She needs to get to a safe stretch of road. After she does that, she calls him and tells him what is happening. Jude doesn’t like the sound of this.
Sonja says the storm is letting up. She hangs up and gets back on the road. But a short time later the storm is actually worse, so she must pull over again. Just as she’s about to call Jude back and give him an update, a car that’s been following her pulls up behind her. A man gets out in a sheriff’s uniform. He motions to her roll down her window and seems to want to check her ID. We only show this guy from the waist down and he doesn’t speak (yet).
Meanwhile Jude’s taken a ride share to the apartment building. He makes sure Nathan is okay. Charita tells him about Jim’s dementia diagnosis. Jude hasn’t heard from Sonja and he’s worried. His phone rings. It’s Amanda. He learns from Amanda about the Murdocks and how Petey is now with Ryan and Schuyler.
Tyrone is coming back from a break and overhears what Amanda’s just told Jude. Amanda is now off the phone. Tyrone says he just found out his transfer was approved. But he will help close out the Murdock case.
We cut to Ryan & Schuyler’s place. They are home after leaving the Salerno mansion. Schuyler had wanted them to have their own family, but not this way. Schuyler pretends he has gotten a text from his boss Marshall Wiley and must go into the office, though it’s his day off. Ryan asks if Schuyler will come by later and help with Petey. Schuyler will think about it. As he goes, Ryan realizes Petey’s diaper needs changing.
In the next scene Ryan is finishing with the diaper changing. Someone has come by to see him. It’s Tyrone. Tyrone is glad Ryan is with his son. He asks if Schuyler is around. Ryan says Schuyler supposedly went into work and will hopefully be back. Tyrone tells Ryan about his transfer.
We the cut to Jude on the road. The storm on the way to Naperville has dissipated. He’s still trying to Sonja who’s not answering. There are a series of lap dissolves. We then see Jude arriving at the bus depot in Naperville. Jim got off and is wandering around.
Jim has been looking for Jude and is glad to finally find him. Jim temporarily snaps out of his dementia and realizes where he is. He is upset to learn he traveled somewhere without realizing what he had done. He admits he has Alzheimer’s disease but Jude says Charita already told him. Jim is still angry at Charita.
Jude asks where Sonja is. Jim hasn’t seen her and doesn’t know. She’s still not answering her phone. In the next shot Sonja’s car pulls up at the depot. Jude notices she is not herself and something is terribly wrong.

148 The Aftermath Outline written by Jarrod McDonald, c) 2023
It’s a few months later. We reveal that when Sonja arrived at the depot in Naperville after the storm, she admitted to Jude she had been assaulted by a sheriff. An investigation revealed the man was not really a sheriff, but someone posing as a law enforcer.
Further investigating led the police to find out that man was Merle Denton, whom Jude admitted had followed and stalked Jude in Washington D.C. at Christmastime.
With Amanda and Ryan’s help, Jude located Merle’s hideout and arrested him. They were told Merle worked for Harry Greenwood, who’s still locked up in Joliet.
After these newly constructed flashbacks bring the audience up to speed, we see Jude travel to visit the old ex-judge at the penitentiary. In Joliet he tells Harry that Merle even though Merle was arrested and managed to post bail, he will probably accept a plea and turn evidence against Harry to save himself. Harry laughs and says Jude thinks he has it all figured out, but he knows nothing. Harry is taken back to his cell, but not before Harry asks Jude if Rebecca liked her present.
On the way out Jude dials Becky who still lives on a farm in Nebraska with her husband. He apologizes for not being in touch for awhile. He asks if she received any present recently. She says it just came this morning and it’s lovely. She thanks him for sending it. Jude learns that Harry sent a beautiful clock with a card that says ’from dad.’
When Jude gets to the apartment building later, he tells Sonja about this. She thinks it’s time he tell Becky that Harry Greenwood is the one who got Gloria Dawson pregnant all those years ago, not Jude. But Jude doesn’t want to ruin Becky’s life.
There is a reference to Jim, who is supposedly reconciled with Charita and with Charita’s help, he’s been visiting some specialists that can help them deal with the onset of advanced dementia. Jude still blames Jim’s condition for what happened the day Sonja was caught in the storm and raped. But Sonja says they can’t blame Jim for a condition that is beyond his control. Harry Greenwood is the one to blame.
We cut back to Harry in his cell, telling a guard that he will be out soon. It’s just a matter of time and he will be a free man.
We then cut to Birdie’s hotel in Chicago. The captain is in the bar celebrating his last night as ‘free man’ with Lance. The captain proposed to Bernice who said yes. Bernice is having a bridal shower up in one of the suites with Gisselle, Amanda and Heidi.
Birdie’s running herself ragged trying to make sure guests are happy. Adrian stops by to see her and thinks she’s working too hard. He says she hires help to assist her. She admits Fronklin has been worthless lately. Just then Fronklin comes up and gives notice. He says one of the guests offered him a job as a personal assistant. He’s going off on a round-the-world cruise with that person. Birdie reacts.
When Jarrett finds out Fronklin’s leaving, he tells Birdie that he will be more willing to step in and take on additional responsibility. But she will have to give him a new title and a hefty raise. Since she can’t afford to lose Jarrett, she agrees to his outrageous demands.
Adrian steps into the bar area to offer his congratulations to the captain. Ryan’s just shown up, and Jude’s on his way. It is said Tyrone might stop by but he’s busy with his new job at another precinct after transferring. Adrian mentions going to visit Yvette recently at the hospital, who is still in a coma. He asks about Petey and says he heard from Schuyler about wanting to schedule a christening. This implies Ryan & Schuyler are reconciled now and bringing Petey up together.
As Adrian is exiting, Jude shows up. The men toast to the captain’s happiness, with the captain sipping non-alcoholic cider. One of the ex-prostitutes from the old motel, who is now here at the hotel as a guest and personal makeover project of Birdie’s seems to be hitting it off with Lance. When Bernice and the ladies crash the men’s party at the bar, Bernice notices Lance cozying up to Cocoa. She tries to discourage it but Birdie comes up and tells Lance and Cocoa they’d make a nice couple.
When Bernice complains Cocoa doesn’t even have a real job, Birdie says Fronklin quit, Jarrett was promoted, and she’s hiring Cocoa to assist Jarrett. It is news to Cocoa who’s pleased, and news to Jarrett, who isn’t.
We then dissolve to the next day at the justice of the peace. The captain and Bernice remarry with their family in attendance. After saying ‘I do,’ the captain stops off briefly at the precinct to collect the rest of this stuff. He is now officially retired. He tells Jude he’ll be in touch and will drop by to see Jim after his honeymoon.
As the captain exits, it is revealed Jude and Amanda have both applied for the captain’s job. The interviews are tomorrow. But Jude’s distracted by Sonja’s upcoming appearance in court to testify against Merle Denton. Jude meets up with the prosecuting lawyer and learns Merle’s agreed to take a guilty plea and incriminate Harry for a lenient sentence. Later when Jude discusses this with Sonja, she admits that she doesn’t like the idea of Merle getting off lightly with the chance of being out on the streets in a few years. But it would save her from appearing in court and it would ensure that Harry Greenwood’s sentenced be extended. After mulling it over, they call the prosecutor and give their blessing.
The next day Sonja and Jude tell her parents they are not going to court and that Denton’s pleading guilty. The Jablonskis are glad it’s over. Sonja mentions she still hasn’t decided if she’s going to sell the coffee shop or not. If she does, Dewey and his wife Sadie might obtain a loan and buy it.
Jude has to leave for his interview. Everyone wishes him luck. As he gets into his car, he receives a text from Amanda asking where he is. In the next part, he’s arrived at the precinct. Amanda has just finished her interview and thinks it went well. But she didn’t text Jude about that. She texted him because they just found out Harry Greenwood escaped.
Jude tries to put thoughts about Harry Greenwood out of his mind while he goes into the conference room to interview for the captain’s position.

149 Old Enemies Outline written by Jarrod McDonald, c) 2023
Harry Greenwood is still at large. His ex-wife Ruth and his daughter Lauren haven’t heard from him and they don’t want to hear from him. They’ve gone on with their lives and that’s how they want things to remain. Amanda and Ryan are still tracking down leads, and they’ve received help from Tyrone, with the approval of Tyrone’s new boss.
During one of these stakeouts, Ryan and Tyrone are alone together and they discuss what happened between them. Ryan mentions Petey’s upcoming baptism. Tyrone says he’s glad Ryan and Schuyler resolved their issues and are happy. Ryan tells Tyrone he’ll find someone. But Tyrone seems to have fallen hard for Ryan and it’s not easy to move on.
Ryan gets a call from Schuyler who reminds him what time they need to be at the church later for the christening. Schuyler hears Tyrone’s voice in the background taking a call from Amanda. Ryan admits Tyrone is on the Greenwood case with them. Schuyler reacts.
As this occurs, we learn Jude has sent Sonja away with Nathan so she can be safe and ensure they’re not a target for Harry Greenwood or his lackeys. Only Amanda knows that Sonja and Nathan have gone on a trip with Sonja’s parents to Nova Scotia, where the Jablonskis have relatives.
Meanwhile Charita has had to put Jim into a nursing home since he became too much to care for at the apartment. She is back living there, running the building. She goes to see Jim when she can. On this day, she is grateful an old friend is visiting with Jim and talking about old times.
The old friend is former Captain Colm O’Reilly, who now just goes by Colm. He heard about Harry Greenwood and knows Jude and Amanda will do everything they can to get that creep back behind bars. Colm warns Charita to be careful. She promises she will. Jim notes Colm being kind to Charita, which he interprets as affection.
We then cut to the church where Ryan has shown up for Petey’s baptism. He joins Schuyler in the church with his son, and with Sandra and Naldo who are the godparents. Vito’s running around and won’t sit still. Naldo tells Ryan this what he can look forward to when Petey is older. Bernice enters the church. She’s here to support Schuyler. Adrian then comes in with Agnes and things get underway.
This is intercut with Jude at the precinct. He and Amanda still haven’t heard if a decision has been made about who will be promoted to the captain’s job. While finishing some paperwork at this desk, Jude replies to a text Sonja sent, that he hasn’t heard anything yet about the job.
As he sets his phone down, it rings. It’s a call from someone who had been close to Harry Greenwood, when Harry was still a judge. This person asks to see Jude. Jude tells Amanda and Tyrone he may have a lead and will let her know as soon as he finds out anything.
Back at the church, Petey’s baptism concludes. Everyone goes to Biggie’s place afterward to celebrate. At one of the tables, Bernice is joined by Colm who describes how lucid Jim was/wasn’t. It is mentioned Heidi is now engaged to Kermit, and Lance has grown more fond of Cocoa.
We cut to Jude. He meets up with a man named Murray Nader who used to work in the judge’s old office. Murray gives Jude a clue about where the judge is hiding out. When Jude returns to the precinct, he tells Amanda what he learned. They devise a scheme that sends Amanda undercover, which will put both their lives at risk if things go wrong.
In the next part Amanda is undercover, pretending to be on the take, in order to get close to a financier that Murray Nader says is providing Harry Greenwood with a place to stay. Amanda deliberately loses her cool with a small fish loan shark named Flynn and demands to be taken to the top man, the person who is a financing a big loans she’s taken out for a new house.
As Amanda is taken by Flynn to the house of the financier, she learns it is none other than Maeve Dennison. Maeve doesn’t normally get involved in these kinds of rackets, but had to do something to pay off her son’s legal bills. Plus she loves the fact that Amanda is indebted to her.
Amanda asks what Maeve’s connection is to Harry Greenwood. Maeve pretends not to know Harry, but Amanda says Murray Nader told Jude that Maeve’s in cahoots with Harry. Maeve admits that she and Harry are long-time friends. She had once been engaged to Harry years ago in college before they married other people.
Amanda says Maeve’s deluded if she thinks she can get Harry out of the country and have her happily ever after with him. Maeve admits that Harry won’t go anywhere with her until he finishes one last piece of business, and that is killing Jude Anthony. Amanda reacts.

150 Jude’s Life Outline written by Jarrod McDonald, c) 2023
It is the next day. Jude hasn’t heard back from Amanda and is worried. He doesn’t want to bother Ryan who’s taking a short trip with Schuyler and Petey. So he calls Tyrone who meets up. Tyrone says the last message he had from Amanda she was on her way to see the top loan shark person. He scrolls on his phone but she didn’t provide an address.
Jude calls Murray Nader. Tyrone goes with Jude to meet him. Murray is coaxed into saying he has heard rumors the loan financier is Maeve Dennison. Murray points them to a place where he thinks Maeve is now living. Tyrone doesn’t know who Maeve Dennison is. Jude fills him in on Amanda’s history with Maeve as they drive to the address that Murray provided.
Meanwhile Ryan has stopped at the precinct with Schuyler and Petey, to get his phone recharger, on their way out of town. Ryan learns from a dispatcher who just talked to Jude that Amanda’s missing and Jude’s gone to find her with Tyrone. Ryan feels he needs to help them. Schuyler pretends to give his blessing but implores Ryan to be careful. Ryan kisses Schuyler and Petey and takes off. A homely secretary named Emma gushes over Petey. She thinks it must be wonderful to have a little boy and a handsome husband. Schuyler never thought of it that way.
We then cut to Jim’s room at the nursing home. Bernice has shown up because Jim called and asked her to come by. She says his message sounded urgent. He says yes, he has something urgent to tell her.
We go to Maeve Dennison’s place. With Harry Greenwood’s help, she has Amanda tied up. They are now making a call to Jude. Jude picks up on the other end. He’s still in the car with Tyrone, just pulling up outside. Amanda’s mouth gag is removed long enough to talk. She tells Jude and Tyrone that Harry’s here. Maeve yanks the phone away and tells Jude she wants a plane to whisk her and Harry away, or else Amanda will die.
Outside Jude and Tyrone step out of the car. Tyrone’s going around the back. Jude slowly approaches the front entrance. He tells Maeve he wants to speak to Harry. She hands the phone to Harry. Harry says to Jude that there’s a chance he can convince Maeve to let Amanda live, if they get away. But of course, letting Jude live is out of the question.
We then cut to the nursing home. Jim’s telling Bernice that Colm is lusting after Charita. Bernice looks at him shocked. She knew he had dementia, but this is really demented. He’s off his rocker.
We go back to Jude, telling Harry he’s off his rocker. Jude’s going to rescue Amanda and put Harry back behind bars. And Maeve will also end up behind bars. Harry says Jude isn’t holding all the cards, he is. Just then there is a noise on the back porch. Harry’s got a gun and he shoots through the window at whoever’s on the back porch (Tyrone). At the nursing home, Bernice is watching Jim be subdued since he had a violent outburst when she didn’t believe what he said about Colm. She feels bad for him and leaves. Outside she gets a call from Colm who asks where she is. She says it’s not important and heads to meet him at the coffee shop.
Meanwhile, Gisselle has shown up at the precinct to tell Amanda she heard from Bradley. She learns Amanda’s been kidnapped. She faints. As Gisselle comes to, she learns a decision was made regarding the captain’s job and an announcement will be made. She dials Amanda who can’t pick up at the moment.
At Maeve’s place, Maeve has taken Amanda’s phone which won’t stop ringing and smashes it. The judge has stepped out on to the back porch where he finds Tyrone’s bloody body. Tyrone’s been shot but it isn’t clear if Tyrone is alive or dead.
Out front Ryan’s just pulled up. He tells Jude they need to wait for back up to arrive. Jude says there isn’t time, when they hear more shots. Maeve’s taken a gun she keeps in a drawer and is firing warning shots at Amanda, enjoying the power she has to make Amanda squirm. This is payback for how Amanda betrayed her son Noah.
Amanda tells Maeve that Maeve’s the reason Noah’s messed up, not anyone else. Now Maeve has had enough and the next bullet is going for Amanda’s head. Just then Jude and Ryan burst through the front. Jude and Ryan exchange shots with Maeve who goes down. As Ryan runs over to untie Amanda, Jude searches for Harry who seems to have vanished.
Jude finds Tyrone’s motionless body out back and tells Ryan. Amanda is standing over Maeve’s who’s still breathing. Maeve is writhing in pain looking up at Amanda. Ryan’s hurried out to the back porch. He turns Tyrone over and notices Tyrone’s not breathing. He give Tyrone mouth to mouth resuscitation.
At the same time Jude’s gone down an alley after Harry. Harry is behind a bin, waiting for him. As soon as he is able to get a good shot, Harry aims and fires at Jude. Jude fires back. There is a crescendo of bullets.
In the last act, Sonja has flown back from Canada. Amanda is still processing what happened to Jude, who saved her life. She is now in charge at the precinct. It is revealed that Jude was chosen to be the new captain, but he’s near death in the hospital. At the hospital Sonja is counseled in her grief by Adrian and Agnes. We also have the return of Marty. Marty helps Amanda finish tracking down Harry Greenwood, who escaped again but didn’t go far. Harry is posing as a clown in the children’s ward at the hospital. He is there to monitor Jude’s progress and see if Jude will survive.
Also at the hospital is Tyrone, who survived thanks to Ryan. Ryan’s come by to see him. Tyrone is able to speak, and he says he loves Ryan. Ryan tells him not to say that and walks out.
At the same time Jude is being rushed back into surgery. Sonja prays in the chapel with her parents. In the next scene a doctor comes in and says Jude died of complications from surgery. Meanwhile Marty and Amanda realize Harry is the clown that’s being friendly to everyone at the hospital. They flush him out into the open and bring him to justice. After Harry is apprehended, we dissolve to Jude’s funeral at Holy Name Cathedral. The attendees include Agnes and Danny; Birdie and Jarrett; Marty and his wife Pamela; Charita and Jim; Bernice and Colm; Rebecca/Becky; Dewey and Sadie; and various extra staff from the precinct. After the funeral, Sonja takes Nathan to the precinct to see a photo of Jude in his uniform on the wall. She lets Nathan touch his daddy’s picture.
In the background we see that Amanda, the second choice, has been officially made captain. As Sonja exits with Nathan, Amanda is at her desk in the captain’s office. She has a memory of a conversation she once had with Jude. It was an earlier time, in the episode ‘Amanda’s Place.’ She had almost quit the force and came back. Jude had told her there was only one place for people like them, and this is it.

Thanks for reading.
I have already written a few outlines for a follow-up program that focuses on Amanda as the captain of the precinct. But I haven't decided all the long-range story arcs yet. Several of the regular characters and recurring characters continue in the follow-up, with the obvious exception of Jude. Plus a few new characters are to be added into the mix, to keep things fresh.
The follow-up program will be called Amanda Fallon and there will be around 100 episodes, not as many as the first program.
I probably won't start posting outlines for AF until early 2024. Check back!
