I've always liked the movie SLEEPY HOLLOW 1999. Starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci. This is my favorite adaptation of Washington Irving's 1820 story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow".
I think this is a great October/Halloween film.

I think my favorite of the classics is THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA 1925 starring Lon Chaney and Mary Philbin. This silent version of Gaston Leroux's novel is so moving.

October is a perfect month to watch the film BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE 1958. Starring James Stewart and the lovely Kim Novak.
Co-starring Jack Lemmon, Elsa Lanchester, Ernie Kovacs and Pyewacket the cat. It's fun to watch Kim Novak cast her spell!

THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN 1966 is such a great October/Halloween movie. Starring Don Knotts, Joan Staley, Liam Redmond, Sandra Gould and Dick Sargent.
Knotts plays Luther Heggs who aspires to be a reporter and takes on the haunted Simmons Mansion.
LiamCasey mentioned this film on the Svengoolie thread, but I thought I'd post it here too since I've always loved this movie - even when I was young!

I love this movie more than I can even say. It's not Halloween without THE GHOST AND MR CHICKEN!
I feel like this is a movie where the whole town is a character-- I want to visit Rachel, Kansas, and meet the nebbish bank owner with his seance-obsessed wife and the old ladies at the boarding house. Nydia Westman has the best line -- "And they used Bon Ami!"

Another Halloween movie I love is ARSENIC AND OLD LACE
It's got murder and comedy and dead bodies and a Frankenstein stand in
This one actually takes place on Halloween Night, so we save it for last in our Halloween viewing. It even has trick or treating!
It's in Black and White but has fall foliage in the graveyard scenes:

Then there's the kind of love that defies time and space - even for ghosts! How about THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR 1947.
Starring Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison and a very young Natalie Wood.

More ghostly love in BLITHE SPIRIT, Noel Coward’s wartime comedy to help people laugh at death, starring Rex Harrison in the Noel Coward role …. Although Margaret Rutherford steals the show as the medium Madam Arcotti I had the greatest privilege to see Angela Lansbury as Madam Arcotti in BLITHE SPIRIT here in LA — wow!!

Leaning toward the lighter side of drinking potions - LOVE POTION NO. 9 1992 film, starring Sandra Bullock and Tate Donovan.
After Paul visits that gypsy on 34th and Vine - Madame Ruth - she gives him Love Potion No. 8 which he then needs an antidote for - which Diane gives him - Love Potion No. 9!!!
Then the fun starts!!!

I just watched another Halloween comedy favorite, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN
This is the perfect Halloween comedy because it's got Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolfman, and The Invisible Man at the end. It even has a costume party. Pure Halloween fun!
All the Abbott and Costello Halloween movies are fun to watch: ....MEET THE MUMMY, ....MEET THE INVISIBLE MAN, & ...MEET DR JEKYLL & MR HYDE
