I've only seen "The Underworld Story," but I have seen both her and Duryea separately in many movies and like them both very much as actors.
And they do have good chemistry in, again, the one movie I saw them together in.
Plus, she has one of my top-five favorite names of all time.

Producer David Selznick says in one of his published memos "Veronica Lake" was the best synthetic Hollywood name. But I agree with Fading Fast, that Gale Storm has an even better ring to it. She was born Josephine Cottle, so you can see why it was changed!
As for James' comment about THE UNDERWORLD STORY and AL JENNINGS being made at two two different studios, sometimes I wonder if these were "package deals." Like if Duryea and Storm might have had the same agent or the same management firm representing them, and if they were friends who wanted to work together, their services were then sold as a team to two different production companies. I am not saying that is what happened here, but it's possible.
I did get the sense watching both films that they probably were very close off-screen, because you can't exactly fake the chemistry and genuine rapport they have on camera.
