I continue to be annoyed that some TCM films cannot be streamed. There is no cable company in our area at this time. They have all moved to streaming-that is they provide internet and you subscribe to a streaming service.
Today is Jeanne Craine's day on Summer under the Stars. I have not seen GENTLEMEN MARRY BRUNETTES. And am apparently destined to never see it. It and THE TATTERED DRESS are blocked. At this time, with cable seeming to be disappearing, I don't know why companies owning the films won't allow them to be streamed. As streaming services are struggling to show a profit, my guess is the companies are moving to show their films only on their affiliated streaming service.
I'm still buying DVDs. I may get fed up enough to not have any streaming service while the streaming industry sorts out profitability.

For me the biggest pitfall of streaming are the tracking cookies, which are implanted on pay as well as "share" sites. Nowadays, you can hardly log on to any personal device without being recorded and tracked. Ads pop up catering to the most fleeting thoughts and impulses. It really is like that scene in Minority Report where Tom Cruise is walking through the airport terminal whilst AI generates ads catering to the thoughts and wishes of everyone passing by.

I'm well. And yourself? Interesting to hear that peeps are still buying DVDs. I've still got hundreds in boxes that I haven't touched since moving. At one point I'll invest in a massive wall unit to house/organize the best of my (and my parents', who recently passed) DVDs in some sort of order. The rest will be giveaways (they have almost NO resale value, unfortunately). I'm letting go of most of my streaming subs, though. Increasingly, there are titles which are represented across multiple platforms on any given month. YouTube, The Criterion Channel and Prime Video will more than likely be mainstays.

Glad to read, ando. Myself, it's currently not the happiest of times for me but hanging in there. Condolences on the recent passings of your parents: Hold on to the memories that put a smile on your face. If I correctly recall, we exchanged pleasantries on the eve of the old TCM Message Boards' closing, but I was late in joining here so lost contact with you. I occasionally had a Shakespeare-related movie moment in mind but maybe didn't post because you'd fallen away by that time. I will revisit a couple for you eventually now that your back...

I - to bring the subject back to streaming - let my BritBox sub go because one of the DVD sets that I did unbox was my copy of the BBC late 70s/early 80s Shakespeare film series. I enjoyed the easy access that BritBox provided of those films but it seemed redundant to have both readily available (and I’m not a fan of contemporary crime dramas/procedurals which litter the service). The old Doctor Who? series do intrigue me a bit. But I found a nifty channel which has most of The Bard’s plays (albeit, in decidedly inferior digital resolution, but certainly watchable) in that series streaming free. Looking forward to more Shakespeare discussion.

Well, ando, you kind of took the edge off of one of my Shakespeare-related drops for you as the following, I fear, falls under your anti-contemporary crime dramas/procedurals. but here goes anyway with the hope you've not previously seen this post somewhere earlier... "Thou shall get kings, though thou be none." Thou will later be Chief Inspector George Gently - considerably older than the young Banquo, but still blocky tough: Nice. Sorry I'm late with the return - but flummoxed as always with these streaming services. Your post inspired a perusal of the Martin Shaw series which I've never seen. It's not on BritBox (that option might have actually prompted a subscription renewal). All 8 seasons are currently streaming on Hoopla but, of course, you only get a certain number of "borrows" per month so binging on any particular season is out. AppleTv claims to have it but they just redirect you to other sites who want to charge you a fee per episode. AcornTV (stand alone or with Prime Video) does give you a 7 day trial after which a fee similar to BritBox is levied to your personal plastic every month. May take that route and cancel 6 days afterward (slickers sometimes try to get the charge in before Day 7). For fans of older tv series and/or movies, in general, this routine can get tiresome. Hence, the proliferation of "share" sites which stream older content but are almost always loaded with insidious malware. I keep a trusty browser blocker for those sites though tracking is nearly impossible to avoid wherever you roam on the web. Not sure I want to go the complete DVD box set route. I generally like my distractions more immediately accessible.

If you're given to 1960s England trappings you might well enjoy the show.

Sure - the thread subject title gave me leave to vent about streaming pitfalls. So I took it.

Hope it’s viewable fom where you are.

Sorry Ando, I saw above post soon after you submitted it, but I see I didn't give you a thumb's up. I have GENTLEMEN MARRY BRUNETTES on my list, but I've been busy with yard clean up for all this time.
Also, on my list is SHANGHAI STORY, added to my list because of some post on this site. It's going to be shown tonight and DRAT, it's blocked-apparently it isn't available for streaming.
Of course, I don't understand the myriad issues, but DARN it seems the industry is determined to hurt itself.

Giving it a watch tonight. Thanks!

Well, this frustrates me. How does Youtube have the film if it isn't allowed to be streamed?
