Alan Ladd is someone who shot to stardom in the early 1940s, and he stayed on top for the next twenty years. His period at Paramount in the forties and early fifties was quite prolific. During this time, he played the lead in 27 Paramount pictures, from his breakthrough in THIS GUN FOR HIRE up to this most iconic role in SHANE a decade later.

I have a soft spot for THE CARPETBAGGERS. It's the only Ladd film I saw in a theater.

I have a soft spot for THE CARPETBAGGERS. It's the only Ladd film I saw in a theater. Interesting...it's the last Paramount picture he made and he was billed after George Peppard.
The one I have a soft spot for is THE BLUE DAHLIA.

Of course, I really enjoy all of Ladd's Paramount noir films, but one soft-noir film I really enjoy is Salty O'Rourke (1945). Ladd is his usual tough guy but what I really like about the film is the other actors, especially Gale Russell, and a young Stanley Clements.
I have yet to see the other Paramount film Ladd made with Russell, Calcutta (1947), which also has a frequency co-star of Ladd, and fellow Paramount contract player, William Bendix.

I really like THE BLUE DAHLIA 1946 too topbilled, but one of my favorite Alan Ladd movies is THE GLASS KEY 1942 - although I like him in almost anything he played in.

Really like this list topbilled - just eyeballing it, there are at least 7 Alan Ladd films I don't think I've ever seen. Maybe I've seen some, because I usually watch any movie with Ladd in it, but just didn't remember the name.
