whatta shameless liar. sez outta one side of his mouth how well the economy is doing under his genius but is so scared sheetless of a rail strike that he has his accomplice democrat flunkies force a contract on the rail unions they have already rejected on them and without paid sick leave. that's pretty. and how does the gop establishment aka. bush-cheney moderate wing expect to oppose biden when they go along with empowering him? with the exception of six mcconnell and his stooges go along and vote with the democrats. this and other things is why it is premature to write off Trump.

I agree with you, but you might think about joining another site for politics. On the TCM message boards most agreed about politics being removed. TCM deleted the whole off topic section. HTTPs://www.movieforums.com/community/ . It's the 3rd choice. Somebody there posted about Putin falling downstairs and having another accident while doing it. It's called shout on the website.I did like your Star Trek references more subtle.

(For what it's worth, not to take this off-track; but these posts have been discusssed over at another film confab forum.)
Marysara1, I see that you have found that neurotic obsession with this site over at that alternative forum. I think they're on the third or fourth page of comments about how thankful they are not to be here. A few people seem to have this phobia about "politics" creeping in to the place, yet at the old TCM boards they often had no hesitation whatsoever about injecting their own views in some of their posts.
This is classic. These people will poke the bear with all kinds of snarky comments about right-wingers or religious people. And they keep poking, and poking, and poking, until the bear finally responds. Then they get their noses all out of joint and blame the bear for reacting. And it's then that they want to call the moratorium on "politics!" (Notice the other forum poster who responded to you, Marysara, made mention that you agreed with the original post here)
The way I look at it is this: There's some really interesting things going on here at this site. And there are some interesting things going on over at the other place. I just take it as it comes, knowing full well that there are insufferable clods everywhere. That's life. And we're all too human sometimes. I don't know what I did to some of the people over at the other place, but I really don't think I'm welcome over there. But that won't stop me from looking in on it from time to time.
Don't want to horn in too much on Nip's time, so thanks for taking a moment to look at this. Brian

Maybe they'd look kindlier on this site if they knew it features Planned Parenthood ads

I think there should be a compromise and instead of politics have current affairs. I'll respect that both sites don't want politics, but it must have been interesting to many because most of the board members knew who posted about things, which meant they were looking at it. It was in a different section, so you didn't have to look if you didn't want to. I keep remembering the scene in a Lassie movie where a man tells Liz Taylor's character that she is God to Lassie.

Yeah but current affairs in our time is politics, and our politics are tribal and hyper-partisan. The TCM boards became less about what was on TCM and more about either movie title games or partisan politics, with some movie and TV talk on the edges. That's probably why the site was unplugged. Very little was about TCM. There are so many other places to talk politics, or current affairs, if that's what people want. One site in particular is in the news quite a bit right now. I'm hoping this site can become a haven for the discussion and sharing of aesthetic experiences. The threads may not move as fast or be as spirited as a political board, but I think the less partisan it is, the more likely it will be to attract new members who will want to contribute.

I think the problem here is that we are talking about two different things. One is the creation of specifically current political threads and offering one's opinions on on those current topics. If the forum site wishes to provide for that, then go ahead, and anyone who wants to chime in can do so at his own peril.
The second issue is what I write about. If we are going to be engaged in discussions of movies from all ages, then we are going to have to deal with the political environment in which those movies were created. Certainly not all the time, but some movies deal with subject matter that requires historical understanding of the period involved. Then there are plenty of movies which just exist as popular entertainment or pure shlock.
The "other" site was going down a path of discussing this forum and making it very clear that certain members did not want people from over here tainting their site with political views. One post even went so far as to fire a warning shot over the bow, commenting that he knew there were some people who are members on both sites, and they had better put a sock in it if they wanted to participate over at the other place. That's what prompted me to write what I did before, especially when Marysara1 was trying to explain things over there.
If you're going to discuss any kind of art form in an intelligent manner, it helps to have a pretty good understanding of history. Without knowledge of what came before us in terms of the human condition, we will not be able to understand how people long ago got through this life. There's an essay for another day in all this, but my main point is that we should be able to talk about movies in a way that one side of the discussion doesn't just throw a tantrum when political or moral observations are offered to help explain things.
All for now. Thanks, Brian

I was just at SSO. Maybe there's a love/hate thing going on. They were talking about Nip's bed and him being a runner-up for the gift card.

We don't have to guess. We know who his guest are. It is Trump that claims to not know who his guest are. As for the overall topic of politics and websites: Unless I'm mistaken the heading here is Art and Leisure. Looks like many people feel politics is a leisure activity. Oh well.

I and a partner are posting under multiple names there. I am private messaging with one member who is quite loose-lipped. More to follow.

As for the overall topic of politics and websites: Unless I'm mistaken the heading here is Art and Leisure. Looks like many people feel politics is a leisure activity. Oh well. The term Arts and Leisure has been rankly abused. Most people in middle-brow message boards do not have much interest in this type of category. One poster initiated a political conversation saying that well politics is a sort of leisure. Sorry, not leisure in the sense of Arts and Leisure. Unless Admin doesn't mind Political Talk, so be it, let's have threads with the nomenclature Politics and leave the hell A&L alone. If Admin is cowering about doing something about it because he is loathe to make anyone unhappy for fear of losing a member, what so be it then. Arts and Leisure, what a joke! I was sparring with a political person some time ago but broke it off, it was slippery slope.
