FANCY PANTS is my favorite of their films. Ball is a trooper and shades of Norma Shearer- the bird in the cage in Ball's hair!!!

FANCY PANTS is my favorite of their films. Ball is a trooper and shades of Norma Shearer- the bird in the cage in Ball's hair!!! I didn't include their fourth and final film, CRITIC'S CHOICE (1963) which I thought was particularly dismal and ironically was trashed by critics upon its original release. But after creating this thread I read some user reviews for CRITIC'S CHOICE on the IMDb, and though it has a low score overall, I was surprised by how many positive reviews were posted.

I agree that THE CRITIC'S CHOICE is weak. It belongs in the mythical world of LEAVE IT TO BEAVER and FATHER KNOWS BEST. When it's on tv, I usually watch it. Why? The cast which includes Rip Torn, Marilyn Maxwell, John Dehner, Jim Backus, Marie Windsor, Richard Deacon and the ever wonderful Jessie Royce Landis. These actors surely knew that the way this story was written was dated, but they play their parts believably.

Of the four Ball-Hope collaborations I think THE FACTS OF LIFE is my favorite. Despite its contrivances it feels more realistic than the other titles.
