Gene Tierney was arguably the most photogenic actress on celluloid in the 1940s. She usually played women in turmoil, not too unlike her own personal life, which was often in a state of upheaval. But there was something delicate and sweet about a Gene Tierney film, and Darryl Zanuck’s writers handed her some memorable stories to play, whether it was the noir object of desire, LAURA, or MRS. MUIR, a woman who becomes involved with a very friendly and very debonair ghost (played by Rex Harrison). While her stardom faded in the mid-1950s, she took some time off, but she attempted a comeback in a few films during the 1960s.
