If you come away from any of these movies thinking Dressler should have popped Moran one in face, they you are thinking correctly.

If you come away from any of these movies thinking Dressler should have popped Moran one in face, then you are thinking correctly. I often wonder who came up with the idea of putting them together on screen. They are definitely forerunners to Lucy & Ethel and Laverne & Shirley.
After Dressler's death, Moran left MGM. She signed with Republic for awhile and made two comedies with Alison Skipworth-- TWO WISE MAIDS (1937) and LADIES IN DISTRESS (1938). Skipworth was a brilliant stage-trained comedienne, but she was a bit more high-brow and polished with her characters, so she wasn't quite a Dressler replacement.
