He's not the performer of the week. This seemed the more appropriate place to post. Today TCM is running films he wrote. The film I always watch when it runs is IN WHICH WE SERVE. It's a good enough story, a celebration of Lord Mountbatten and the British navy.
My attraction to this film and any other he acts is his manner of speaking. He speaks very fast and clearly. I've never heard anyone speak so quickly and at the same time clearly. I try to improve my speed and diction whenever I see this film-which may be foolhardy because I live in the south. Being from up north, I've learned to slow down, but still miscue if someone has stopped speaking. There are longer pauses before you politely respond.
If you have not seen Coward act, regardless of the film good or bad, watch him for a few minutes. He is truly astounding.

I am pretty busy with work today, but still stopped and watched his welcome and his farewell speeches in "In Which We Serve" as they are so good. Wish I had had the time to watch it all.
I'm sure you know this, but he pops up in a reasonably nice-sized role in 1969's "The Italian Job" and delivers a wonderful performance.

My favorite film featuring Noel Coward is Surprise Package (Columbia - 1960), staring Yul Bryner and Mitzi Gaynor.
A fun adventure\comedy with one very nice musical jazz scene that features Coward and Gaynor.

Noel Coward is the best part of THE ITALIAN JOB. I've seen SURPRISE PACKAGE and isn't Coward exactly as a deposed king should be?
Playing the who would you like to be marooned on an island with-Noel Coward would be on my list-not a practical choice as he confessed to being rather inept at daily chores, but he would be fun.
