Does anyone watch the Oscar telecast anymore?
I'm watching this year because there are some movies and performances that I actually liked.
Anyone else out there watching?

Jimmy Kimmels's monologue was fairly unfunny. He made a joke about Robert Downey, Jr's struggle with addiction. The guy's nominated for an Oscar, so he probably doesn't want to be reminded of that anymore.
Kimmel doesn't have Billy Crystal's knack for improvising and reacting to things during the ceremony. But Kimmel works for ABC do we're stuck with him, I guess.

Nice heartfelt speech from the Best Supporting Actress, Da'Vine Joy Randolph . Her co-star, Paul Giamatti helped her up the stairs to accept. Nice guy.

I'm watching. Didn't realize it started at 7, so I missed the first hour. I'm making my list of films to watch when they appear on tv.
I suppose my hearing must be fading: I wish they wouldn't clap at announcement of each nominee-I'm missing some of the titles and names. Time to go to the Beltone store.

There are some pretty good movies this year. I've actually seen many of the nominees. I liked The Holdovers and Oppenheimer. My to see list: Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things, and Zone of Interest.

A bit of a surprise for Best Actress. Emma Stone looks shocked. Poor Things won several behind the scenes awards earlier.

Oh dear. Al Pacino kind of screwed up the Best Picture presentation. Didn't he skip reading the list of nominees and just open the envelope and read the winner? Oh well. Oppenheimer is a deserving winner.

The tradition of the Oscars screwing up the In Memoriam segment continues. From the Hollywood Reporter:
"The In Memoriam segment had purposeless dancers and purposeless opera singers, and the director was so busy trying to capture everything that was happening onstage that it was possible to completely lose track of the departed luminaries, who were appearing several at a time on multiple digital screens featuring text so small it was impossible to identify them. Then, to avoid the usual social media outrage about people who got left out, the segment concluded with a black screen full of tiny names that weren’t even slightly readable. I couldn’t tell you who was or wasn’t in the tribute. It was all very bad."
