The 1978 movie HARPER VALLEY P.T.A. transferred to the small screen with Barbara Eden reprising her role. The movie and subsequent TV series were of course inspired by Jeannie Riley's hit song.
The first season began in January 1981 and was called Harper Valley PTA...it was a hit. Produced by Sherwood Schwartz, of Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch fame, the show initially did very well with audiences. But then over the summer, Schwartz was fired (a decision Barbara Eden did not support) and the series was retooled as Harper Valley with the focus less on the PTA and more on the town. This second version did not do so well and after 30 episodes, the show was cancelled.

The first TV run of “The Odd Couple” is one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. The follow up attempts failed to recapture the magic.

I remember seeing TV shows based on The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and Please Don’t Eat The Daisies when I was a kid back in the 60s. I enjoyed them but don’t know how successful they were with the critics or the ratings. (Whether they were based on the movies or on the underlying books is another question.)

What about the inspired by TV shows. Some are obvious Bell, Book and Candle = Bewitched, The Brass Bottle = I Dream of Jeannie. Some aren't as literal like Easy Rider = Then Came Bronson, Moonrunners = Dukes of Hazzard.

I always felt Bewitched borrowed heavily from I MARRIED A WITCH, the film starring Fredric March and Veronica Lake. Notice they didn't make Darrin on Bewitched resemble Jimmy Stewart, they made him resemble Fredric March.
Some TV series are blatant ripoffs of hit movies. For instance: BJ and the Bear is a copy of EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE. Alias Smith & Jones seems very much inspired by BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID. Also, an argument can be made that Battlestar Galactica was influenced by STAR WARS. Etc.

Sure. Bewitched is a bit of a mash-up of Bell, Book and Candle and So I Married a Witch. Sol Saks has admitted that. It's the ensemble of wacky witches that comes from BB&C. Alas, no Pyewacket.

Wagon Train obviously owes a debt to John Ford's WAGON MASTER (1950). Both featured Ward Bond.

No one ever remembers Delta House, the short-lived (and cleaned-up) sitcom spinoff that used many of the original cast of 1978's "Animal House", with the obvious notable exception:

Shaft did not work on CBS back in 1973 even with Richard Roundtree.
