Wowway internet provider discontinued cable service and offered Youtube TV at a discount for a year. I took the offer because it has TCM, but lost channels I watch frequently-couldn't find a streaming service with all I watch. So tonight I'm set to watch ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and it is blocked because it is not available for streaming. This is what I don't like about Youtube TV: On their guide they show ANNIE GET YOUR GUN plays 6-8 pm, but not until 6 pm and I try to watch, then the guide says it is no available.
And funny to me, if you want to customize the channel lineup-can't do it from the tv-gotta go to my computer to do that.
Eventually I'll find a streaming service I like, but what a waste of time. Resorting to watching my dvds.

It is interesting indeed. ANNIE GET YOUR GUN is an MGM film and TCM has the rights to MGM library. TCM is included in the free channels of Youtube TV, I can't fathom what prevents ANNIE GET YOUR GUN from streaming. Someone else owns the rights?

Sometimes they are sub-leasing the films elsewhere. Like I notice that when they do a Summer Under the Stars day for someone who's a western star, they cannot put some of the titles on too many platforms for viewing, because they have also rented those titles out to Starz/Encore Westerns. And I suppose part of their agreement (I'm just speculating) is that they cannot provide direct competition, otherwise, why would those other channels want to purchase anything from their library. After the rental period ends, then the film is 100% available on TCM and its streaming platforms.

Another film blocked: GET YOURSELF A COLLEGE GIRL. The film is a bunch of fluff, but there was appearances by musical groups with stars Mary Ann Mobley and Nancy Sinatra.
Wonder what blocked this film?

That's why I didn't willingly go to streaming. And while it's not this topic, I have a question you may be able to answer. I am watching THE HEIRESS on TCM now. It opens with the Universal studio logo, then the film starts with the producing studio logo of Paramount. Did Paramount sell its library to Universal? Or how do just a few films change libraries. For instance, FXM use to play THE KING AND I frequently. Then Paramount released an announcement that it was time for a new KING AND I. Does that mean Paramount now has the rights and now Paramount owns the film?

This blocking of movies is most annoying. Last week 2 other films were blocked. And now that we are in TCM's 31 DAYS OF OSCAR, a favorite month of mine for TCM, this weekend LADY SINGS THE BLUES was blocked. You must be right, Topbilled, that some songs are not to be streamed and so LADY was blocked. I find this most distressing still-TCM has the rights to air a film, TCM is part of the YoutubeTV streaming package, but the rights of some films are not approved for streaming. I wish the participants in these rights issues could standardize. There are no internet franchises in my area offering cable. If this is becoming true throughout the country, the same fees for rights for cable should be paid for streaming. How do all these companies keep this straight? Yancey Cravat wrote of his trouble with Youtube over individuals' complaints that he posted copyrighted material, but the material was not copyrighted. Do companies like Youtube really know what is copyrighted, what can streamed?
My favorite month for TCM will be disappointing. Ah, well, back to my DVD's.

I've got Hulu and saw that Lady Sings the Blues is blocked. I found this on the Hulu community board, posted back in 2020. The person reached out to TCM and got an answer:
"I first asked Hulu support about this. All they could say was sometimes some programs are blacked out I then asked TCM support about it. Here’s what they said. “ Thanks for reaching out to TCM. There are sometimes airing restrictions because distributors (companies that own the movies licenses) don't give airing rights to broadcast some movies over the internet. In other words, some movies slotted to air on TCM cannot be aired via a streaming service (like Hulu, YouTube TV, Sling TV, etc.).”

Thank you for letting me know. You have saved me time. There is no point for me to try other streaming services.
