"You'll be one of the daughters of the King. That's what you are now, Sadie."
Prelude to rape..?

Have you notice how often in movies straight hair equals "good girl" and curly hair equals "bad girl?"
Yes, there are exceptions, but it's still a big tic. And bad boy perhaps. Walter's hair is quite twirly whirly. Good catch. Maybe it shows his true "soul."

Will Sadie go back to her old ways? That must be why Joan originally asked Mr. Maugham to write a sequel.

"I'm going to Sydney with you, if the invitation's still good." Errrr, yah. I've seen enough Datelines to know what really happened.
Don't take any luminol into her beaded den of iniquity.

I have my optimistic moments and I think when they get to Sydney, Crawfords going to be happy being married to a good man who treats her well.

Thanks Andrea for this wonderful way to start a month of Somerset Maugham melodramas.
Here's a photo of the cast and crew of RAIN.

I hadn't remembered that Mrs. D had the last scene. I believe she did understand everything that happened. She knew her husband.
"I feel sorry for the whole world" was a great last line, for Sadie, too.
Glad you all liked it.
