The Continuing Adventures of Fawn and Me
Me: "All set for a new month with a new theme?"
Fawn: [concerned] "Oh God, who chose this month's movies?"
Me: "Andrea."
Fawn: "Phew."
Me: "What are you saying?"
Fawn: "I'm saying I like her movie choices."
Me: "Is there someone's movie choices you don't like?"
Fawn: "Let's focus on the positive. Hey, what is the theme?"
Me: "W. Somerset Maugham movies."
Fawn: "Oh, tough for you."
Me: [offended] "Why tough for me?"
Fawn: " Well, umm, er, I know that literary stuff usually goes, how shall I say it, a bit too, umm, deep for you."
Me: "Oh really. I'll have you know I've read and enjoyed several of Maugham's novels."
Fawn: "You do know reading the Wikipedia page is not the same as reading the novel itself."
Me: "Oh shut up and get up here or we'll miss the start of the picture."
Fawn: "If you don't understand something, just ask me."
Me: "Just for that, I might not share my Sno-Caps with you today."
Fawn: [with his lower lip quivering, tears welling up and his voice squeaking] "Really?"
Me: [putting my arm around his shoulders] "Just joshing, here you go buddy." [said as I hand over a big box of Sno-Caps to Fawn]

I'm literally laughing out loud. These days I look forward to the Fawn vignettes the way I once did the pre-film cartoons

Yes, the Fawn pre-movie vignettes are worth the price of admission! LOL

Incidentally, we are having rain here today in north Phoenix...a place where we sometimes go three or four months without any rain.

If this film had been made at Columbia by Frank Capra, it would have starred Barbara Stanwyck.
Love these opening shots of the weather, sets the mood.

The scene with the passports is a good way to get expository information taken care of, to introduce the characters in a quick and logical way.

Yay Galacticgirrrl is here! Even though Joan scares me quite a bit... I agree, softness is not her thing.

Guy Kibbee complaining about the missionary couple: "They'll break your backs to save your soul." Powerful line - theme of the movie in a way.
