for years now I have been sleeping on this cruddy queen-sized memory foam mattress. whatta overrated crock memory foam is. it is too spongy and has no firmness so I ordered a new bed. the bed frame has been delivered but I am waiting on the mattress a 6" inner spring mattress. the bed frame is solid steel with wooden slats so no box spring is needed. I shall enter 2023 with a new bed to rest my weary bones on.

About ten years ago, we switched to a similar bed (from Crate and Barrel). Getting rid of the box spring is awesome (I never really knew what a boxspring did anyway) as the room now feels more open and we can store some things under the bed (always a plus in a small NYC apartment).
I think you'll be happy with your new bed.

my new mattress is scheduled to be delivered on monday and then I can begin assembly operations. first I hafta drag my old hated mattress outta my apartment and then disassemble the frame upon which it rests. good riddance. I hope the downstairs office won't mind me shoving it into one of the elevators. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JaWIKlpH3Q

I overtaxed myself with assembling my new bed. it was just too much for me. the instructions were hard to figure out and the pieces were all heavy steel and it was a 2 or 3 person job. Finally my brother who is a physically active athletic man arrived to save the day. me I'm just your average fat sluggish lump. well sir the bed was together in no time thanks to his kindness. next time I ever need a bed it's either Raymour & Flanagan or an inexpensive fold-away cot. because of these last two days of strenuous exertion I pulled a muscle and had to take 2 naproxen pills this morning but I'll recover especially since I should be getting my diecast replica of the 1956 Ford F-100 pickup truck today. that'll perk me up plus I love my splendid new bed.

This thread has made me think about my bed. LOL
I left my condo in Yuma in late 2013, because I had to go back to Wisconsin to help look after my dad. I had this huge bed, don't even remember the make/model but I paid a lot for it. When I went to Wisconsin I let a former coworker take it because her son had just gotten married, and he and his new wife had no furniture, not even a real bed.
When I was in Wisconsin I rented a town home that had a bedroom/loft upstairs and those stairs would have made it tricky to get a huge bed up there...so I bought a futon that I could take up in boxes and assemble on my own. But like Nip's story, the instructions were awful and it took three days to put it together!
The problem with the futon is that I couldn't get used to sleeping that low to the floor and despite a good mattress, I felt it was messing up my back. So I gave the futon to my cousins, when I did not renew the lease on the town home and went back to Arizona.
At my condo here in Phoenix, I decided okay it is time to have the type of bed I really want. LOL I had always wanted a sleigh bed, with a certain color wood (cherry wood). I had dreamed about this bed for years. It has the best mattress I've ever bought. And when I fall asleep on the sofa in the living room watching a movie, I certainly don't get as good a night's rest as I do when I am in the bed.
I was able to find a nice cherry wood night stand that goes with the bed very nicely. So this is probably the happiest room in my place.

I wished I lived in the beautiful desert southwest like you and Dargo instead of crappy new jersey although the beach sand here is incomparable. and the best tomatoes and corn are grown right here in new jersey the superlative jersey tomato and jersey white corn. better than regular yellow corn being not as sweet. I have a step relative who lives in McAlister Oklahoma a real okie and she looks like sissy spacek.

Nip, I laughed when I read your orig comment about memory foam. Thought about replacing my decades-old bed and tried some various types at a Mattress Firm - all too soft. Son bought a new bed that he raved about, a "firm" memory foam. Tried it with hubby when we visited for dinner. Hubby liked it, but I found the floor more comfortable after just a couple of minutes.
