I guess the one that comes to mind most quickly is KRAMER VS. KRAMER (1979) about a custody battle between ex-spouses.
But there are so many other melodramas that spend the bulk of their time inside a courtroom...like:
AN ACT OF MURDER (1948) with Fredric March on trial for the mercy killing of his terminally ill wife (played by March's real-life wife Florence Eldridge).
THE WRONG MAN (1956) where Henry Fonda plays an innocent man falsely accused of a crime he didn't commit.
THE COURT-MARTIAL OF BILLY MITCHELL (1955) with Gary Cooper standing trial.
ANATOMY OF A MURDER (1959) about an accused rapist.
A CRY IN THE DARK (1988) in which Meryl Streep is an Aussie woman suspected of murdering her infant child.
ROE VS. WADE (1989) an NBC telefilm with Holly Hunter caught up in the abortion rights debate.
A FEW GOOD MEN (1992) another court-martial flick.

Great list. "The Paradine Case" also comes to mind and, if we want to stretch it a bit, "Madame X." One could argue, the Christmas movie "Remember the Night" is really a legal melodrama.

Another melodrama with an American star that looks at the British legal process is YOUR WITNESS (1950) with Robert Montgomery.
