Before RKO ceased production as a major Hollywood film studio, it remade a popular romantic comedy that had starred Ginger Rogers & David Niven. This time, the leads would be played by Debbie Reynolds and real-life husband Eddie Fisher.

I like BACHELOR MOTHER better. Fisher seems nervous before the camera.

I like BACHELOR MOTHER better. Fisher seems nervous before the camera. I guess I haven't really studied Fisher's acting.
I prefer the 1939 version, because I enjoy Charles Coburn's performance so much. I don't think Adolphe Menjou gives his character a strong interpretation, like Coburn does. Also this doesn't seem like a film that needs to be made in color. The black-and-white cinematography of the original provides a somewhat old-fashioned feel and this story is an old-fashioned screwball romance.
