Nice write-up! And great photos. Thanks, TopBilled... The hacienda house's (final) owner of about twenty years, school principal Rose Hopgood, tried to have the once Buck Jones estate declared a landmark, but with no takers, unfortunately saw the proverbial wrecking ball in 1980.

What a shame. What's there now...a park? Please don't tell me it's become the site of high-rise condos or a shopping plaza.

That's a very nice writeup, especially since you had a personal connection. Thank you for sharing that with us.
It's a shame the home couldn't have been saved. I see that happen in NYC all the time. The unfortunate reality is that it costs a lot of money to keep an old building or home going as is and sometime the economics just don't support it.

The Laurel 'n' Hardy workshop, which was located at or very near the same intersection as the Buck Jones estate - Hazeltine and Magnolia, also is long gone:

I was just going to ask if it was still standing.... I'd planned to one day revisit the school and should've when I had the thought, sagebrush: In seemingly the next instant, I was regretfully gazing at razed dirt.
