A nice line-up for Mason. While it includes several old favorites (e.g., Odd Man Out, A Star Is Born), there are some movies here that I’ll be seeing for the first time (e.g., The Seventh Veil, The Sea Gull).

As a young wannabe actor, attending college in 1979, I met James Mason coming out of the stage door to the Longacre Theatre in NYC. He was appearing there in FAITH HEALER with his second wife Clarissa Kaye and the self-described "itinerant Irish actor" Donal Donnelly.
As I usually did in those days when meeting an actor I admired I said, "Mr. Mason, I'd like to work with you one day." His reply kind of stunned me... "The question my dear boy is, Can I keep working?" The play closed very soon after. It only ran about a month.
And no, I never did get to work with him. He passed away five years later.

I believe I read that December's SOTM will be Ava Gardner. This is fitting as December is her 100th birthday month. I live just a few miles from her childhood home in "Grabtown," although it's actually off of Grabtown Road and in a town called Smithfield. Not sure if a Grabtown community ever existed but the internet proclaims she was born in Grabtown.

I saw Sweeny Todd several times in those days. (Mostly the 2nd act.) I got Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou to sign a playbill and an odd piece of advertising ephemera. I'd definitely said to them I'd like to work with you one day. It actually come true about fifteen years later. Not long after I arrived in Los Angeles I was fortunate enough to do two episodes of Murder She Wrote. It was a dream come true for a youngish actor and remains a highlight of my somewhat spotty career.

While it can be a bit slow in parts, I like "The Seventh Veil," but I will watch any movie that has Ann Todd in it as she is one of my biggest Classic Hollywood crushes. My girlfriend of 25 years: "Would you leave me for Ann Todd." Me: "Yes."
Also, it seems like you've seen it, but I highly recommend "Cry Terror!" as it, IMO, is an outstanding crime drama/hostage movie with an incredible cast.

Is this James Mason's first time as SOTM? No. He was previously honored in 2003.

He made some brilliant cameos in the 70s so the 14th looks like another great Mason day. Thanks, TB.

Has TCM aired this doc? Interesting look at Mason's career from peers and the man himself. Wish TCM would transfer all the Mason films that get aired (especially the early villian roles) to WatchTCM. Looks like they're only keeping a certain number for the streaming service.
