EDIT: Just realized this is intended for video, so my bad. I'm amending it to include live performances of their iconic hits. For George and Tammy you'll have to follow the link to YouTube because it won't embed.

Ron and Russell Mael are a dynamic duo in my book. And I think they've kept litigation to a minimum. From the old days:

Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield practically defined "blue eyed soul" back in the 1960's but, like the Everly Brothers, they felt the need to split up for a period (in the Everly's case, for several periods), but I don't believe there were lawyers involved. Their best work was with Phil Spector on his Phillies label; their voices blended into that Wall of Sound so amazingly well. The downside is that they were so identified with the sound that their live TV appearances generally relied on lip synching to the record. This version is a little more sluggish because it's live, but the voices are there.

It was touching to see June's family making the rounds to promote the new doc (and politely pointing out June has yet to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame). I didn't know she studied acting. ‘JUNE’ Documentary Showcases the Multi-Faceted Legacy of June Carter Cash

I do hear quite a few borrowing the Sparks sound. My lovely The Last Dinner Party is extremely guilty. The fact they got Cate Blanchett to perform with them at Glastonbury was utterly cheekily deliciously marvelously unbelievable.

I don't have Paramount+ but I'll try my best to see this. It looks great. Ken Burns' documentary about country music spent a lot of time on the Carter family and June/Johnny, but this one seems really special. My taste for country music seems to come and go. I liked it as a kid when I could sometimes get a signal from country stations, then my attention wandered for a decade or two. I really liked the roster of artists which came out of the 1990's, then it started to seem same-old for a while, stuck in a beer-and-pickup-trucks rut, and now I'm listening more again. Flighty, ain't I? I like it best when they stay away from flag waving and preaching, but even that stuff when it comes from the heart can get to me. There's a hell of a lot of history and tradition attached to the music that demands our respect. Seeing the trailer made me want to watch the Reese Witherspoon/Joaquin Phoenix movie again.

I'm glad to see this program to highlight June. I think a lot of people today don't really realize what a huge role she and the entire Carter family play in music history. Thanks for posting this.
Another hot country duo for your perusal -- Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner.

Country is complicated. Every genre and art form is of late, or always has been - I just wasn't paying enough attention. Strange to say I'm enjoying the extra due diligence, even Porter's litigation.
Old friends on mixed tapes reminded me of this one - yes, I've already done one S&G but I have a habit of playing everything twice - failing memory or I just enjoy cheating? You be the judge.
I've skipped the tape ahead to the songs, but if you like Chuck Grodin, he has a nice bit at the beginning

Complicated, you say? Tammy Wynette and George Jones would certainly vouch for that.

Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
A fresh and extraordinary talent, Fitzgerald was paired with Armstrong, a bona fide legend, in order to boost her young career. What happened was magic. Somehow, Fitzgerald's melodic and well-phrased delivery worked perfectly with Armstrong's zazz-zazz gravel. Their first recordings together were for Decca in the middle 1940s, then they released three critically and commercially successful albums on the Verve label in the later 1950s.
