Ben says a soundstage was 67 feet tall. Marion wanted it 98 feet tall. Warners agreed if Hearst foot the bill.
What is the advantage to a taller soundstage?
By the way, I don't know where to post my questions about TCM fillers and promos. Forgive me that my posts don't fit the category.

I know that one of the films she did for Warners was made in the middle of a heat wave. It was summer. The sound stages didn't have air conditioning in those days. And she wanted large blocks of ice brought in to help keep her and the dancers cool. So maybe a larger/taller soundstage would provide room to accommodate the ice, and for them to work around that...? Just guessing.

Oh, yes. You remind me-the older houses built with high ceilings. No A/C, heat rises, so you have high ceilings to have a cooler room.
