So, is Howard wearing a toupee? Just noticed it looks that way up close. I didn't notice. It's possible. Rains definitely is wearing one in his scenes.

This is the third time I've seen this movie and I just got confused about the timeline. Damn you Lean and all your flashbacks and flashbacks within a flashback.

For a Hollywood remake, I would have kept Rains and reunited him with his NOTORIOUS costars, Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant.
Bergman would have really played up the romantic suffering of this woman.
Grant's physicality would have been in line with what women (and gay men) in the audience would have wanted. I will listen to any recasting decisions that do not include replacing Ann Todd. I love Ann Todd too...but a Hollywood studio would probably have had to pick an actress with more box office clout in the North American markets. I think Bergman would have fit the bill perfectly...since she still had a European quality about her, had been embraced by American audiences, and would have done this gut-wrenching affair stuff to a tee.

Wearing an ascot not ironically, in a Chris Craft and with Ann Todd at your side. I'd have to up my daydreaming reach to match that moment.

Topbilled can recast the men if he wants, but I agree with fading Fast that Ann Todd is perfect for this role. Her beauty has a perfect untouchable quality. Even her hair is always lined up strand by strand.

Now we're seeing Rains' brief memories.

This scene at the 71 minute mark where she comes back into the room off the balcony and discovers her husband is there...that's a great moment. Perfectly played.

Racing up to the room to wave goodbye from the terrace, inadvertently, right in front of Rains is a heck of an unintended gut punch.
